Discussion
Not heard any personally but Tubi are meant to be very loud.

Any of you guys have had the experience of different kinds of sports exhausts' sounds INSIDE a 996tt cabin? As I use it mostly as a weekend drive the louder and more intrusive the sound, the better!
Thanks for any inputs
Thanks for any inputs
The problem is that the 996TT has a "booming" at around 2k revs, add a loud exhaust & this is amplified, add a VERY loud exhaust & this becomes unbearable...be careful. Also the VERY loud ones sound like a tractor outside, every small touch of the loud pedal at low revs makes the car sound like it is a tank, great at the top end though!
My advice is go medium loud, improves things inside & out without drving you nuts.
If you want the loudest then fabspeed is probably the loudest range, although all the top names will offer a loud system , like Cargraphic do, although I believe this version isn't TUV approved!

I stand to be corrected here, but it's similar to The British Standard Kitemark.
The difference in Germany being that any after market motor component has to be TUV approved before it can be placed on the market. Any meaning anything from a suspension kit to an exhaust tailpipe trim.

Fabspeed made the mentalist Supercup pipes for the 993 so I'd expect they have something similarly extreme for the 996 TT.
Quick check of their website - yes, they do a sports catalyst upgrade with 'muffler bypass' pipes, i.e. the only silencing you're going to get is going to be the turbos and the cats.
Incidentally it probably won't be as loud as an extreme N/A car, the turbos themselves do a fair amount of silencing.
As mentioned above, watch out for resonance - the Supercups on my 993 caused a seriously brain-melting resonance. There's loud and cool, and there's loud and unpleasant....

Thanks for the info and replays guys.
Grant3, by medium loud you were referring to tubi exhaust?
Apologies for my ignorance but what does TUV stand for?

Most of the aftermarket exhausts offer various systems to suit taste, from quiet through medium to loud, good names like Cargraphic, Europipe etc, Tubi are also supposed to be good.
In honesty it isn't really possible to make the Turbo sound as good as the naturally aspirated cars inside because of the damping effect of the Turbos etc! maybe a combination of the medium system & a louder air intake package would produce the best results, but as the cats are part of the exhaust package it isn't cheap!!!
As mentioned TUV approved means it has been tested & approved to the German TUV standards, which is highly thought of & usually considered a sign of quality.
