996 PCM Nav Disk Copy
Discussion
Hi all
My Nav CD player decided that it didnt like the nav disk anymore today and sat there for most of the day sounding like it was stuck in a loop, couldnt eject it or anything, turn the car off and on again and it just did the same thing. Eventually it stopped and by restarting the car everything was back to normal??? Assuminmg that this was no more than computer gremlins or something I moved on but then thought what if it chewed up my nav cd? So I have made a copy but the PCM says that I have inserted the disk in the wrong way up (It cant read a copy) Any workaorunds that anyone knows on this?
1998 996 with PCM1 Nav tech full screen system. Many thanks in advance.

i've got a simialr problem.
About a year ago, I very occasionaly got the disc error message - I made a copy which worked fine. Can't remember what software I used though.
Now I really in the s*** as both my copies are scratched, so I am without navigation.
Bizarrely, despite already technically owning the software, Porsche are telling me that I need to buy the £300 set of discs - they will not simnply replace the defective media. This is pretty scandalous.
So can someone please help us out here?

Dunno for Porker PCM but the Volvo navtech that I downloaded from EMule is an ISO image so should be easily burnable. BUT, it is a 7 Gig disc, so requires double layer DVD burner. I have one, but haven't got round to buying a blank double layer DVD yet.
If you have the original then the thing to do is to create an ISO image on your hard drive with your burning software. This can then be burnt onto a blank disc to produce a perfect copy (as far as I know!).
Best of luck.
