2. 3 months to 12 months which seat? does it go in front or rear?

To make a newborn you need to go in the front, of that I'm sure. The rear won't help at all. jester

Sorry - do try searching the forum as the baby seat issue has been done many times, though whether there is any info on the 997 models I don't know.

1. They generally go in the front, the airbag will need to be disabled. If you do a search I believe someone found a seat that'll go in the rear seats. Rear facing seats are made from the heaviest substance known to man, and then designed to be as awkward as possible to carry. Could be difficult getting one in the back of a 997.

2. In the rear seats. Several brands fit, if you search for child seats, there's a fair few threads.

3. Do not get a ing Volvo. No offence Ballcock.

I tried saying the same thing to my wife , it's her Volvo .. Got a kick in the nuts for an answer .. Thanks for askin.

In answer to baby seats , Torch and I have Britax trio seats , but I think it's from 3 months on , you'll have to get a front loading back facer until then. The trios fit very nicely .

I'm sorry (from a car point of view) / delighted (from a family point of view) to say that I know far too much about child seats ....

Until at least 9 months of age, rear-facing seats are the only option. In the case of a 997, this almost certainly means front seat only. The Porsche baby seat requires the ISOFIX preparation for the passenger seat, which includes the ability to deactivate the airbag (which is an ABSOLUTE MUST for any child seat in the front).

But (important point), I understand that there is quite compelling evidence that the longer you can keep a child rear-facing, the better. A rear-facing seat is simply safer, for small children whose neck muscles are not well developed. Apparently, in at least some Scandanavian countries, the law requires rear-facing for up to several years of age. For my wife's car, we have a large rear-facing seat which our 18 month old child is perfectly comfortable with - but there is no way such a seat would fit in the back of any 911 (and possibly not in the front, either).

From 9 months of age, if you are prepared for the child to face forwards (which we were not), Porsche manufacture a seat - the Junior Seat ISOFIX - which will fit in the back of a 997. This is, however, an unusual design, with a larger cushion that goes across the child's chest to hold it into the seat. Some children are *not* happy with this, although some clearly use it quite well. The Porsche child seat brochure states that it is suitable for 9 months to 7 years (approx.).

A number of people on this forum successfully use a range of other (more "normal" design) forward-facing seats in the back of a 911, presumably from 9 months upwards, although it is hard / impossible to find one that has manufacturer approval for use in a Porsche.

If you have trouble getting a tow bar fitted, the roof box is of course another option.

The reduced space in the boot of a 4/4S also has the advantage that contents rattle around less than in a 2/2S.
