Hi guys

I'm having my car remapped next weekend, approx 550 bhp, my car is totally std, and I can have it returned to normal whenever I feel like it.

The company doing it is one of the best, so not worried about that.

My question is, whoever has had these kind of remaps, would you ever go back, or is every aspect better than the original? I'm worried it will lead me to drive fast all the time because the low down performance will lead to jerkiness. I have no reason not to doubt them, but my car is fast enough and I don't want to lose any of it's driveability.

Additionally, if I do push it all the time, will I be putting additional stress on any of the components?

Thanks in advance for humorous and helpful answers.

Im at the same stage as you... still not sure about getting a remap.. i would be interested to hear your opinions on your car when completed...Got the 04 gt2 wheel last week and it transforms the looks of car from the turbo wheels..

Looks like I'm the guinea pig then!

No probs, will let you know Sunday.

I haven't maxed my car yet (180 currently) but I'll test it out with the remap, see if it gets there quicker.

The new style alloys are nice, but the turbo look is one of, if not THE most favourite wheel of mine, so will never change them on this car.

I’ll watch this one with interest as although not strictly a GT2 owner I have none the less had one of those ‘try before you buy’ programs done to my car that lasted an hour or so.

I had this done not long after I bought the car in conjunction with a new exhaust and to be frank I simply hadn’t had the car long enough to get an accurate handle on what the real benefits of the program were.

To be frank the only thing I noticed on the way back from Silverstone to Bury St. Edmunds is she was even thirstier than normal but not much else. As I said, I was still very much in the ‘getting used to her’ phase of ownership so look forward to reading your thoughts shortly.

Hi

Just to add, thanks to Allan at weltmeister, I will probably restrict the power to 520-530 bhp as the car will suffer with any more going through.

I think you've got to ask yourself why the factory is so 'conservative' on power upgrade packages and why they cost so much from the factory.

Factory upgrade kits for 911 turbos are traditionally in the 30-40 bhp range and cost in the region of five figures installed.

I would worry that a remap producing an additional 70 bhp without considering the additional stress on existing components would only render an otherwise bullet proof Porsche engine fragile.

Does that not defeat the objective of Porsche ownership?

Evening guys
Had my 996tt remapped a few weeks ago with GIAC software,I did a lot of research before I went for the upgrade on different sites and forums regards engine stress and internals etc etc.Seems these motors are capable of handling massive power day in day out with very little or no stress whatsoever, the guys that carried out the work actually run an X50 optioned 996 turbo with 600+ bhp and 600lb/ft of torque as a regular drive and in house demo car, they put my mind at rest about the big looming question 'Is this gonna do any long term damage????'.
Anyway, my car was dyno'd at just over 490bhp and nearly 500lbft of torque, swear to god now seriously fast, feels much more muscular all round and no probs at all up to now (done 700 mls in her) the economy seems no worse (or better).
Just can't wait to open a can of woop ass on those big headed biker lads (oh yes lads you better watch out now)

A good remap on a 996TT/ X50/GT2 should always produce significantly more torque than horsepower. See www.revotechnik.com/products/softwareProduct.aspx?pvID=558

We use Revo software [bespoke to each car] to remap 996 Turbo cars as their map offers such a torque uplift without overspeeding the turbos or relying on excessive boost at maximum revs to achieve a "headline horsepower number"

e.g. A 996 TT X50 on Shell V Power should achieve c 525 to 530 BHP and c550 lb-ft of torque. If you change the exhaust system/air filter to free flowing items the absolute BHP will not go up much as the turbos are almost at their limits but the torque will go up significantly, typically to around 580 to 600lb-ft on one of our maps !

There are a multitude of technical reasons why this is and a telephone call can answer some of these

Regards

Hey Alan you say the turbos can't flow any more past 530 on an X50 equipped TT? the centre I had my standard TT mapped at had an X50 TT as an in house demo car,I saw the map figures and on pump fuel it ran 580's just under 600 on high octane.
they were using GIAC software, what do you think to GIAC had any dealings etc??
I was thinking of having k24's and a complete exhaust mod ie extractor manifolds 200 cell cats etc etc, to get a similar figure then do some V/max's.
Are you ruining my Dillusion??
