Could somebody tell me, if the electronic dipstick on my 03 Boxster S should indicate a true oil level with the ignition on, but with a cold engine?. At present every morning it is empty but by lunchtime, it's looking almost full!

Mine registers full when cold. I'd get it checked out if I were you. Do you give it 5 seconds or so to measure the level before you fire up the engine (i.e. hold it on the first ignition setting)?
