I seem to have read that 996's are wider at the back when C4's. I know that 964's weren't and 993's neither. The 964 C4 was higher and had a different technology then the much better "viscocoupleur" of the 993. The 996 takes the same light design of the 993 and improves it.

But is the C4 996 wider at the back, and why?
This probably applies to the 997. I don't like it when Porsches start to look too different , affecting my way of judging them, since there isn't anything nicer than a wide car compared to the narrow one (in my eyes).

I thought the C2 and C4 used the narrowbody design and were thus the same size at the back ? i think its only the C4S has that has wider hips as it uses the Turbo body and suspension.

I could though as is usual, be horribly wrong.

I think that is (nearly) correct:

996 GT3 and GT3RS I think, not sure, are wide bodied
997 GT3 and Targa are wide bodied
there is no 997 GT2 (yet)

ETA: 996 GT3RS

Strange that the Targa is widebodied..

I don't appreciate the fact that the C4 is widebodied but the C2 not.. This goes for the 997, but this does not apply to the 996. Okkk then.

No, I think you are right according to the Porsche website the 997 GT3 is 1808mm wide and the RS 1852mm wide, however, that website also tells me the C4S is RWD.
