Attempted theft
Discussion
Just got a phone call that someone was trying to get into the garage where my car is stored.
They managed to mangle the lock but luckily they didn't get in, not that they would have been able to get the car out since it's blocked in by another car and it's pretty difficult to get the car out in any case.
It seems that you can't enjoy anything these days without someone trying to take it away from you

I presume they were just chancers and not stealing to order.
THAT CAR SHOULD BE IN A MUSEUM

I've been thinking about this abit recently because i'll be parking a near £90k car in my garage at home.
Its a stand alone garage as opposed to one attached to the house. There is only one means of entry - the main metal door operated by a remote control opener. There are no windows or side doors.
Should i get a seperate alarm installed in the garage? After all the car will have alarm/immobiliser/tracker.

Sorry to hear bout this ..
I was wondering about security issues recently as there's been a spate of 996 thefts in the Dublin area .. I was wondering how I could supplement my own security ..
At least your car sounds secure still , locked in a garage behind another car .. I think I'd be happy with that .
I'm assuming the attempted break-in was happen-stance rather than crims knowing what was behind the garage doors. I'd imagine if they were pro's intent on stealing your car they wouldn't have stumbled at the first hurdle of a garage lock!!

ers. wire up the lock to the mains, light switch indoors, turn of the light switch to stop the current to the lock when you want to get in and turn the light switch on when your not in.
you would be very unlucky to seriously injure them but they would get a very nice shock from it
(I had a similiar experience a few christmas' ago, incorrectly wired a lightswitch at my brothers house so if you touch it BANG you get shocked, I was statically charged for a few days following .. .. .. )

cant you get a tracker (is it the tracker horizon?) that activates if the car is moved without the key they call you and ask if YOU are moving it? My car has an anti hi-jacking devise too - if the door is opened the car prompts for a security code 100 yards dowmn the road if you dont input it ....engine stops and I assume the alarm goes mad

yeah - but you would use it at the traffic lights regardless.
we know you will do anything not to be beaten awa from the lights by the pizza hut boys
Bad or good news ?
It sounds bad, however isn't this proof your security works ?[ and therefore good news ?]
Your 2 scenarios are:
Someone knows your car, and was after it.
or
Idiots breaking into your garage and nick the lawnmower/tools inside.
Much more likely to be the second one.
The old- "put something in front of it that can't be moved" is good- I do that.
90 tdi immobilised is good.
If you think theyve targeted your car you may have to move it.
I think Id upgrade the garage with an alarm from macros or B+Q
Sink a girder into the ground cased in concrete that you can remove.
A bit like a beefed up post/padlock
Good news is your still winning, just up your game.
Seriously about mantraps and electric shocks.
You can get into some extremely hot water.
Administering a noxious substance/ constructing mantraps etc was a last resort for a Sierra Cosworth owner when thieving them was all the rage in the early 90's and he wanted to protect his car.
IIRC he got porridge !
They'll get there's and you'll win, you know its ying and yang don't you.

Barstewards. I think your car is too special to treat the break in as a coincidence. You seem to have done everything possible ie strong door, another car in front blocking it in etc. All I can suggest is having some sort of alarm coverage of the garage added to your home system and getting a tracker device fitted to the car.
