Just bought a 996 and one of the keys has come apart... All the important bits such as the blade transponder and remote work.... Porsche will not suppy just the plastic bit for some reason and will only sell as a complete unit, rubbish........ Anyone have any ideas or a way around this other than glue....

I had a similar problem in that after 2 years the rubber thingys covering the buttons have all come adrift from their recesses, and had the same answer from OPC that I couldn't buy just the plastic head for a pound and change all the gubbins over. Mines a cabrio so it has 3 buttons instead of the more normal 2. Saddens me a bit that an £80K car has such a tatty looking key, but as I'm not in the habit of slinging them onto bar counters I just learned to live with it !!!

How much will an OPC want for a complete replacement key, innards and all?

Are the batteries in the keys rechargeable or will they need replacing periodically? If they need replacing, any idea on a source...?

Indeedy. Just ordered a box of 10 from an online supplier. The keys in my old BMW were rechargeable I seem to recall, hence the question.
