ok bit of a dumb question, my new (old) 911 SC 3.2 has baffled me - where is the dip stick hidden? (and yes I am the dip stick for having to ask you lot despite having owned numerous cars over the years this 911 has got me!)

The dipstick is underneath the oil cap, remove cap and you will see it.
Also only check oil level when car is running and at normal operating temp.
(Dry sump)

If it's the same as the 3.2 Carreras, take the oil filler cap off and the dipstick is just inside the filler tube held in a separate channel.

To check oil, DO IT WITH A WARM ENGINE!!! or you'll get a false reading.

Keep engine running (yes it will run a bit rough when you take filler cap off but no worries) and check as normal. You will find that you need a long necked filling container as getting a normal oil bottle in there is practically impossible!

On the other hand, if it's totally different to the 3.2 then sorry, no idea!

Be careful when putting it back as it can fall straight into the oil tank

Oil level has to be checked when the engine is running and the oil is hot, ie. so the thermostat has opened (there is an oil cooler under the front wing), feel under the sill towards the front of the car and check if the oil lines are hot, be careful you don't burn your fingers.

The opinion on oil level, is that just above half way on the dipstick is best, overfills result in oil getting into the engine bay area and onto the heat exchangers causing smoke.

Btw, there is a good forum for 3.2's over at Rennlist or Pelican Parts

cheers

Andy
