Posted earlier thread with High Speed Snap Oversteer problem, found to be the rear shocks both worn (leaking pretty badly)

With the price of OE replacements, I may as well get an upgrade!

Want the car biased towards track but not unuseable on the road.

Anyone out there running the Manthey set up would appreciate your thoughts?

I believe they are KW variant 3, if so I can get them alot cheaper than Manthey price, I assume they have been revalved hence the price uplift?

When its there I will get the Alcon disk aswell, again any feedback apreciated.

Im pretty sure this is what Nervous runs on his GT3. it has a variety of settings for road and race use.

He currently has it on comfort setting which is still hard BUT for road use it is bloody brilliant

Hi Jeweller

I am going out tho KW in December to meet Klaus and have some of the variants 3's fitted to my MK1.

The Manthey kit is VERY VERY highly regarded. It is slightly stiffer sprung and with custom valving. Having said that, the JRZ setup used by Parr is also said to be top notch.

I will let you know how the KW thing goes in 2-3 weeks.

My experience is of the KW system fitted by Manthey. It's exceptionally good (on track) and backed by first rate customer service. Recommended without reservation.

Have u considered having the Bilsteins repaired ?

We use custom Billies on the BMW rally cars and Bilstein have offered this service in the UK, not used it myself as i break them rather than requiring new seals, oil and gas.

If you want their number i will PM it.

Where did you get this price?

My local OPC quoted me £383 + VAT each for rear dampers.

I went to Manthey in Germany to have their shocks fitted and the suspension set up. When I left it felt as if the car for the first time was really in contect with the road on all 4 wheels. The difference it made was amazing. Manthey take about a day to set up the car. They first ask you about your driving style, which tracks you do, how much time you spend on the road, which tyres you intend to run, your weight, whether you tend to drive without assenger etc...I have found that, despite having 3 degrees negative camber, my car is still quite drivable on the road and the wear is relatively even.

I suppose JZ does more or less the same as Manthey and uses the same parameters.

I didn't think Manthey in Germany fitted the Alcon conversion, so I got those from JZ directly. Also, very good stuff. Never known them to fade and they don't crack anywhere as fast the original discs.

I've been told parts ordered from Porsche Motorsport tend to have a [cough] larger margin [cough] ie the dealers tend to load the prices somewhat heavily.
Still £383 + VAT sounds more palatable than £980 !!!

When I spoke to Steve McHale at JZM earlier in the year he said it wasn't worthwhile fitting standard replacement dampers, as for a few hundred quid more you could have Mantheys all singing and dancing adjustable setup.

From my experience of porsche motorsport parts ordered through an independent, you never can tell what the price is going to be, sometimes the price really suprises to the downside. Definitely worth an enquiry at least.

I got the price from an OPC again wont mention which one as I have GT3 RS on order with them!

I will probably get the JZM to do the install, they say they have all of the GEO data direct from Manthey

Far from wanting to knock JZM as I know they do excellent work but I've got a Jamie Oliver cook book but I'm damn sure his food still tastes nicer than mine!....
If time and distance aren't a factor then why not get them fitted by Manthey?
Whats the price difference in having JZM do it and Manthey doing it?

IIRC JZM are manthey in UK.

and the KW variant 3 coilovers are a KW part and they are just set up differently by Manthey (set up for the ring) Parr (for UK Carrera Cup) etc etc etc.
