A lot have rubbish has been spoken about them that is (by people who haven't driven on them). Picked my car up from the factory on Wed. afternoon. Got back Thurs. night. Up early Fri. morning and drove in monsoon conditions up M3, M25 and A1 then on to some Fen like roads to play chase with some mates over seriously undulating roads running with water with generous patches of clag, leaves etc and the MSCs were awesome. Maybe the best I've driven on in the wet - which is amazing when you look at them. Seriously wouldn't have wanted to go that much faster in the dry! Sure, hitting 50+ yards of standing water at speed on the motorway might lead to a botty puckering moment but what car on huge tyres won't go a wee bit light on those occasions? I suggest anyone who is waiting to take delivery of their GT3 stops worrying. Day four and 1400 miles already!

Just be careful, previous generation Cups were lethal in standing water. I didn't believe this til it happened to me one day in a monsoon at Bedford. Luckily there's so much run off I didn't hit anything but I was a passenger on a fairground ride until I came to a halt about 300 yards from the offending puddle.
BTW are you bringing said new car to Brands GP next week? If so, I reckon there'll be a lot of admirers giving it the once over.

Enjoy it!!

Cheers mate - hear what you say. The compound of the new Cups is very different to the prev. ones which apparently makes the difference. Agree that no amount of trick compound or tread is going to save you if the standing water is bad enough. Really though, the tyres were deeply impressive in v.bad conditions.
I want to come to Brands but won't be able to commit 'till Fri. do you think I'll still get in?

I can endorse what you've said.

I had mis-givings, but the new design and compound is specifically homologated for road and track use on the new GT3, and they are remarkably sure footed.

Of course they come with 5mm of tread, so it will be interesting to see how quickly they wear and how they perform when they are down to 2mm. Also, if you compare them with the C4S/TT road tyres you'll see that there is no rim protection.

Agree your comments. Incidentally - as promised - did have a lenghty chat with factory bods re. other tyre choices. Very reluctantly agreed that' somewhere down the line' they will let OPCs know what options can be officialy ok'd. What this means IMO is that since the MSCs represent a reasonable chunk of the 997GT3's advance on the 996 version they don't want to see the cars on any other tyres until all the mags. etc. have exhausted their testing frenzy.

Call MSV and ask how many places available on Monday. I reckon you'll be OK. However, leaving it as late as Friday might be sailing a little too close to the wind. Hopefully we'll see you and the new car there if you can make it.

I have to back Tony up on this one, the conditions yesterday were simply atrocious, so much so my AMV8 (on standard tyres) actually aquaplaned....(going into a sharp right hand bend with drop off into field ahead) causing a button clenching moment. The rough twisty B road had pools of standing water, fenland mud & leaves, the 997GT3 seemed to take it all in it's stride..... amazing.
I would add that the car looked amazing in Arctic Silver & sounded the dogs danglies, a simply fabulous beast!

Pugsey - glad to hear your collection went well and you've truly given it its baptism!
I hope you and Geneve will keep feeding me snippets of GT3 food until mine is ready - I keep dribbling even now at the thought of getting behind the wheel of mine.
Incidently, after speccing mine up last Saturday (without PCM) i've had this niggle all week about regretting not having it in the future.

So yesterday i made the phone call - expensive one at that - as it cost me £1921. My total spec now comes to £90200 and that's without PCCB. yikes

Well the VTS (£985) and top tint w'screen (£68) are built in to the UK price of £79540, so yes it'll have VTS.
Or did you mean am I having the VTS operational? I think i'd have to for insurance purposes...and so i could sleep at night

I mean are you having the VTS operational. I am confused on pricing. The VTS prewiring is built in but how much extra to get the thing operational? And more importantly, is it worth it?

My OPC told me that there's an annual subscription of £200. But no lifetime payment option. I assume they just 'switch it on'?
Is it worth it you ask.. Well would you have a £90k car and not fit a tracker?
What insurance company would be happy to insure without it?

Good to hear you`re enjoying the gt3 Pugsey and in adverse conditions that put how you enjoy driving a high powered car in the wet to the test.I personally enjoy wet conditions ( not monsoon as your post indicates though) I think it highlights a particular cars strengths and weaknesses in many ways .

No, I meant is it worth it or any good in comparrison to, say, Tracker Horizon?

I've been told from an insurance broker (Peart) that the Porsche Tracker is better than any of the other Trackers, ie Monitor, Horizon etc.
So any Company should be more than happy with it being operational.
I definately will be using it - it doesn't make sense to fit another tracking unit.
