I reckon I'll have less than 8k miles done by the time my motor goes in for annual service in a few months. I notice that for 'cars driven less than 9000 miles per year' they suggest an 'annual service' for the sum of £151 .. That sounded like music to my ears til I looked into it , and , if I'm reading it correctly , they don't even change the bloomin oil!! ..

So I could go for 24 months and technically 18000 miles without an oil change. That just doesn't sound right to me .

Before peeps start posting with 'No way would I leave my 996 2 years without an oil change' , consider that this is part of the Porsche maintenance schedule... They're the (so called) experts...

If it doesn't affect the warranty...

While it's right that it can have an annual inspection if it's done less than 9,000 miles, you still have to get a full minor service when it reaches 12,000 miles i.e. if you go for the inspection service now, you might be then taking it back for a proper service about 3 months later.

Porsches' philosophy is to have the car serviced according to mileage but to also have inspections annually if the car is doing low mileage. Correct service stamps at the scheduled mileages are essential for the car's history. Inspection stamps don't mean a lot unless the car does very low mileage when they are important for the anti-corrosion guarantee. Hope that helps.

Personally if I was in your shoes, I would run the car another month or two and book it in for the 12,000 service (or 24,000 service depending on which one is coming up) regardless of the mileage being less.

now, just a suggestion...

but since your planning on coming over in December, you could consider hopping on a ferry, and getting the service done at a UK indy before heading up to Cambridge to show the boys what a great colour combo it is in the flesh...

Thanks Ballcock - You've just saved me £65 !!

My car went in for it's service last week and I enquired about the £160 annual service but ended up getting a minor service and brake fluid replacement. I had a look at the OPC internet site again after this thread mentioned it and the prices included VAT - I checked my bill, I was charged VAT twice !! 3 phone calls later and the refund is on it's way.

Keep an eye on those bills when they come through !!

Ballcock - I owe you a pint !

Absolutely .. My point was that OPC service rates seemed to point this way , but , like you , I wouldn't dream of pushing my car bayond 12k/ 12 months without an oil change .. But then maybe I'm a bit Old School , believing that a 996 is worth cherishing
