The dampers on my 944 s2 are shot, giving me a slightly saggy back end ...

What are my replacement options? Any recommended / tried and tested upgrades I need to know about?

Cheers!

Try this:-

Do a search in the suspension section, most of the parts for the 968 fit the S2.I'm really pleased with my Koni's, I stuck with std springs so it's not too harsh, but they are adjustable and I've got everything set half way at the moment which is about right for the road.

I agree, if I had another S2 and I wanted to keep it near to standard I would go for koni inserts on the front, koni 944 M030 type rear shocks, 968 M030 rear sway bar and 968 front wishbone castor blocks. I had this sort of setup for about 2 years and IMHO it works really well. I feel the upgraded rear sway bar makes the car a bit more noisy but others that have upgraded the ARBs said they didn't notice any degradation in ride quality. Some ppl have tended to upgrade the ARBs as a front and rear package, which is more sensible, but I am not sure how much difference the front 968 M030 bar makes. If you want to go in stages I would recommend the shocks and the castor blocks first. Its amazing how much the steering is improved by removing those 2 little lumps of rubber and its a dead easy upgrade.

I thought I'd read somewhere that the front legs on the S2 can't have the inserts fitted, it's only the earlier models? I have an S2 and was looking at replacing the shocks all round, but using OEM rears and struts on the front.

Refill - the 'saggy' rear end might not just be shocks, it may be the torsion bars need an overhaul or replacement. Probably best to get it checks out by a pro.

You can sometimes find a set of M030's on ebay or in the classifieds here on PH. Rears in teh 968 spec can still be got from an OPC ( i think ) but the fronts are like hens teeth...
Have an ask on the 968 forum there are lots of people who have upgraded to KW on there and they may have some M030's in the garage.

Your options depend on your use, you can go the KW route as many track users have but if its a pure road car they will soon get on your nerves... literally!

Talk to Silverline sispension in Silverstone.. their number eludes me at the moment but Im sure I can dig it out. They are "koni UK" as it were.

The part number is 8641-14114S. They have been on sale in the USA for several years now but in the UK for perhaps only the last couple of years. ISTR I got mine from Design911.
The instructions on how to fit them can be found on Paragons superb website.

The problem with the OEM struts is that they wear out very quickly, my last set managed 55K despite being told by an expert that they would be good for 100K. The go all loose such that one can waggle the strut about.

I've just had a MOT and the report recommended the fronts be seen to, I'm not great mechanically does this need a pro, I'm down near Eastbourne, if anyone can suggest one. Also any idea on the cost?

cheers

If your interested i was clearing out the shed and found the rear shocks off my 968 (changed when I upgraded to konis) they've done 30,000 miles, yours for a contribution to the huge fuel bill I've incurred since buying the Monaro.

By far the best option will be the KW Variant 3 kit, but you are looking at about £1300 plus fitting. The Koni setup with the inserts up front and direct replacement shocks at the rear is the next best option and considerably cheaper. Make sure if you do the Koni setup you change the springs even if you stay standard as the original springs will be way past their best. Also your control arms may be shot so get them checked too. If they are see Hartech for replacements on an exchange basis.

Thanks all, looks like another cheque going in Koni's direction quite soon.
