Cheers,

I was pointed in the direction of a lovely looking 993 C4s in Poland. 24,000Km, year 1997. I know that the car's kilometers are real and that it had no accident.
The old owner of a Mitsubishi dealership is selling it. Lovely specs, incredible price at 42,000Euros. I call them, talk for some 7 minutes about the car, and then I ask: "since I am calling from abroad, and to save me the trouble of coming for nothing, do you mind telling me frankly why the car costs 20,000Euros less than its price on the market?"

The man on the phone was translating, and it was his colleague providing the answers.. When I asked this question, and as he was in the middle of the translation to his colleague, the line was cut. I called back the same minute, he answered and said "sorry sorry the boss changed his mind, it is not for sale anymore"..

and the ad on the internet was now taken off. pfff give me a break..

now you see, you should have kept quiet and nabbed yourself a bargain. that poor, naive old man didnt realise what he had, and when you pointed it out to him he realised he had hugely undervalued the car. No doubt it will be back on again soon at a more realistic price.

what other interpretation is there?

I've been around long enough to know that cars costing 60% of market price cannot be so without a reason that I'm better off without.
You mean to tell me that the boss of a dealership doesn't know how to make money from cars?

I'll also tell you this, if this boss was really as idiot as that, I am 100% positive that some used car salesman would have smelled the coffee long before me (I'm 600 to 800km away), snatched the car and put it up for sale for the real price.

God knows what's the reason.. But it still would have been worth going there and finding out.

Anyway time will tell,
Kay

i need to remind myself that posts laced with irony do not come across well without the attendant visual clues.

I would not pay a preimum for low mileagerolleyes

Would you have to pay any tax on that? If so price seems about right.

I'm confused by the original thread. Are you

1. Angry because vendor accidentally advertised car at the wrong price and then pulled the advert when he realised ?

2. Angry because you feel vendor is trying to sell a dodgy motor at the wrong price ?

3. Angry because people from Poland shouldn't be allowed to enter the Eurovision song contest let alone be allowed to own such a fine car as a 993 Porsche ?

If its 3. I'm right behind you. Daz Simpson was robbed this year.

Thanks tricky. Looked at it carefully. Two things I don't like though:
1- The tuner spoiler
2- The color of the interior, and that one's hard to change.

A bit pricey too..
I don't pay tax for any car from abroad (diplomat). I'm in Austria not Polland btw.

cathar, the C2S is the car I actually want The C4S is second best. Did you notice how rare are the C2S? If you're really interested, a car dealer in the 23rd district has one. I can dig up his business card if you're interested. A special shade of dark blue (and a bit of violet?), fully packed except full-leather, 75,000Km and an asking price of 55,000Euros if I remember correctly. Too pricey for me.

It's 2 because no way does a censored dealership not know how to price cars properly, therefore a dodgy sale and a waste of time. And 3 why not.

Why exactly?

The C2S is basically identical to the C2 except the fat body, and you pay a premium.

Edited to be slightly more constructive.

You're right. The perfect car for me is the short ratio'ed gear one as well, which makes the S all the more inappropriate. But for visual appeal, and desirability. And the fewer Km's and younger age. I just desire an S more, eventhgouh a short-ratio'ed classic early 993 can be, probably, purer to drive. I've tried both, and might just agree.
