Hi

I’ve always had a soft spot for the MK2 GT3; now the 997 GT3 is out, the prices for the GT3 MK2 seem to be softening a bit.

There’s a few on this site in the classified section for 48K ish and both cars look good , but I‘m sure you’ll be able to pick up 997s C2 for that money soon too

I expected the GT3 to be a lot faster on paper than the 997S C2 but it isn’t
See blow taken from track challenge

www.track-challenge.com/main_e.asp

-------------------------GT3-----------------997S
80 - 100 Km/h-----------2,4 s / 3,5 s / 3,9 s--------- 2,3 s / 3,2 s / 3,9 s
80 - 120 Km/h-----------4,7 s / 6,3 s / 8,5 s------------4,8 s / 6,3 s / 8,3 s
80 - 160 Km/h-----------9,6 s / 13 s / 17 s-------------9,8 s / 11,9 s / 16,7 s
80 - 180 Km/h-----------12 s / 16,2 s / 21,7 s----------12,1 s / 15,7 s / 21,2 s
80 - 200 Km/h - s / - s / - s - s / - s / - s

As you can see there’s not much difference between the in-gear times, thge 997s showing better times at most increments

The GT3 being quicker redlining each gear from zero though

.................GT3............997S
Acceleration
0 - 40 Km/h...........1,6 s.............1,6 s
0 - 60 Km/h...........2,3 s.............2,4 s
0 - 80 Km/h...........3,5 s...........3,7 s
0 - 100 Km/h............4,6 s...........4,8 s
0 - 120 Km/h............5,8 s...........6,8 s
0 - 140 Km/h............7,8 s...........8,6 s
0 - 160 Km/h............9,7 s...........10,8 s
0 - 180 Km/h............11,8 s..........13,7 s
0 - 200 Km/h............14,8 s..........16 s
Top Speed...............306 Km/h.............293 Km/h

Add in to the equation better MPG and interior with more practical motoring (no problem with ground clearance) and it seems the 997S is the better choice for me.
I’ve always intended owning the MK2, but now I’m not so sure.

Which would you go for with your own money?

If it's a road car that you want then 997, definitely. If it's something for the track then GT3 would be the choice(noise is much better too).

Have you driven either of/both of them ?
A few figures plucked from a website is hardly the definitive method to make initial assumptions is it ? nerd

Get a road test of both cars on the same day on the same roads if possible, and then ask the question (you most likely won't need to as you'll have put a deposit down on the GT3 anyway)

Still , at the mo I feel he's right .. If you're looking for a 90/10% road to track car , the TT would be the top man between gt3/997/tt.

And like every other pork driver here , I reserve the right to change my mind at a moments whim.

I don't want a shity turbo, you'll be saying get tiptronic next. It's got to be RWD and N/A engine, unless its the GT 2,of course yes
