porsche buy disaster--advice please

hi, i put a post on here few weeks ago with concerns- basically friend bought an 02 Targa-from a garage two weeks ago-
had the 190 point check done and couple things came out of it to £750 quid- anyway- took it to porsche in west london to be fixed and the bill is now £ 4,674-
INLET TAPET IS FAULTY ON BANK 1, CYLINDER 1 / REPLACE 6 TAPETS £3,350 {WITH VAT}
VARIO SOLO NODE LEAKING ON BANK 1 £404.00
AND AFEW OTHER THINGS WE KNEW OF ETC ETC,to make the total as above
IS THE GARAGE WHERE HE BOUGHT IT LIABLE FOR ANY ? {NONE PORSCHE}
NO WARRANTY
WHY DIDNT THE TAPPETS COME UP ON CHECK

Firstly, i take it he approved Porsche to fix the tappets etc as he paid for them?
I personally would've called the garage at the point this was made aware and under the consumer rights act threaten to reject the car and get my money back...
Didnt the garage offer a warranty/guarantee? If they explicitly stated 'sold as seen', then he doesnt have a leg to stand on..

So it had a Porsche OPC check, passed it, and then he didn't buy the warranty......
It's his problem, not Porsche's. He might have a claim against the dealer he bought it from, but it would be next to impossible to show that the dealer is liable.
He took a risk and it hasn't paid off, I'm afraid. Makes the warranty look cheap....

I would check that the work actually needs doing. I certainly wouldn't trust the judgement of the OPC mechanics (or probably the service manager in this case).
Why automatically blame the supplying garage when the OPC would be just as likely to rip your colleague off.
I feel very sorry for him.

The dealer will say that the parts failed after he collected the car. Tough to prove otherwise really, especially in court.
Did it have a Porsche check or independent? If it was a Porsche check why the HELL didn't he buy the warranty??

The Porsche check doesn't include stripping the engine and examining the internals.
It covers really obvious stuff, but there is always a risk that the crank will break or something as soon as you set off down the road.
He might want to speak to the dealer about him paying for fixing it, but Bob Hope and No Hope really.

If a fault occurs after collection it is up to the seller to prove that the car was OK at time of supply. The OPC check does this for him nicely.
Having said that the car should also be 'fit for purpose' for the age and mileage so if the faults that occurred are not unusual for then it is not down to the dealer to fix. This is not usually black & white and a decent dealer will see how he can help, unless of course the buyer chose to specifically buy it "as seen" in which case the reduced price associated with this is what the buyer has weighed up against the risk of faults occurring (in this case he has taken the risk and lost, as someone said).
Even if he were to request the dealer pay for or towards the cost of repairs, he is now not able to do so (except by appealing to the dealer's good nature) because it is the buyer's obligation to offer the seller the opportunity to repair any faults rather than just presenting him wih a bill afterwards.
It summary, it seems he loses out all ways really, and needn't have done if he had done things differently. He should have bought the OPC warranty, but in the abscence of doing so could have sought the seller's help (unless he bought it "as seen" etc in which case the seller is only liable if the vehicle has faults at time of supply that make it 'unroadworthy') before any work was done to the car.
