Porsche UK reveals Cayenne prices

Duty and taxes boost basic euro price

Porsche Cayenne S
Porsche Cayenne S
We reported in detail in our story on Monday the changes that Porsche is making to the second generation Cayenne.

Porsche UK has now supplied us with UK-specific prices, which -- interestingly -- vary quite a bit from the straight euro-converted prices that we garnered from Porsche's original German-sourced press release. However, note that the basic euro prices didn't include VAT and other taxes:

  • 290bhp Cayenne: from £37,100 (we reported €43,300/£29,126)
  • 385bhp Cayenne S: from £46,610 (€55,800/£37,539)
  • 500bhp Cayenne Turbo: from £74,650 (€91,100/£61,287)

The new Cayenne will be in Porsche showrooms from 24 February 2007.

is this another opportunity for the once burgeoning 'grey' import market to re-appear...I thought the EU had put a stop to continental pricing discrepancies?

more a case of the original story made the rather large oversight of forgetting to add 17.5% VAT

I assumed this was the case as they had the new version 15%+ cheaper than the old one!!

Seems about right to me...
(91,100 / 1.4) * 1.175 = £76,459

compared to the original figure of £74,650

Not far out, but at today's rate it's (€91,100 ÷ 1.47894) x 1.175 = £72.378

£29k plus VAT at 17.5% is a couple of grand less than the quoted price, so difference cannot just be tax...

We didn't have that information to start with as it came directly from Germany - the UK office needed to work the price out, hence the follow-up story. I've assumed (perhaps rashly?) that the difference between a straight conversion and the official UK price is tax-related. Surely Porsche couldn't be gouging?

The original prices as quoted by Porsche were the base Euro prices. Each country has to add to this their own car duties (if they apply), plus VAT. In the UK this is IIRC 10%c car tax, then 17.5% VAT.

On this bases what Porsche GB have come out with are pretty much on the money (acknowledging that exchange rates vary day to day and they may have a rate set internally for consistency).

Ye gods! I thought the old one was ugly?! Somehow the one's even worse. It'll probably sell shed loads then.

'Visually challenged', is the politically correct term.

Irrespective of its capabilities, I'd rather have a RR Sport, X5 or new ML - all far better looking.

This is true - and also they include the Porsche Driving Experience package in the price and the vehicle tracking system on the Turbo....
