Chris Harris' 997 press fleet comparison is interesting; he was quite forthright in his view again that the 3.6 engine is sweeter than the 3.8. Is the 3.6 carried over directly from the 996?
Thumbs up again for the sports chassis as well. I think in years to come I'll be hunting the classifieds for one of the few (it seems) with that set up.

Over the years I've always found the base model 911s (Coupe, Manual, 2-WD, smaller wheels) with a few simple options, are often the nicest. After that, autos, cabs, 4-wds, fat bodies, turbos, etc are all down to personal preference, but they don't necessarily make a better 911 - where "less is often more".
I was actually going to order that same spec, ie base model plus sports suspension recently.
Only reason I didn't was the offer of a cancelled GT3 which I just couldn't resist.
My first 911 was an early 996 with sports options which I though was brilliant, better fun than my later C4S IMO.

Agree completely. Standard C2 model is often the best car for the road, for me at least. Prefer the basic 997 on 18" wheels and normal suspension I drove, to the 997S on 19" with PASM.
