what price a 924
Discussion
Greetings all,
I'm hankering after my first 911 (late 70's early 80's targa) and so have to move my beloved 924. I have known the car since i was 6 years old, and two years ago was lucky enough to become its second keeper.
I am well aware that the 924 is arguably the least desirable porsche ever built but i still love it. Thing is, i don't really know what its worth. I paid 5k for it and have done less than 1,000 miles since then. It is no ordinary 924 in that it is in literally showroom condition.
Its a guards red 1985 (B) 924 lux with turbo wheels from new, every receipt, everything absolutely original bar service items and tyres and 43,000 bone-dry summer miles. I have been showing the car and have had several people comment that its the best condition 924 they have ever seen. What are the best 924s going for? and where is the best place to sell it?
Granted, any 924 has limited appeal to the general observer, but a collector seeking an immaculate example could do no better than this.
thanks for any advice,
Mike

I would suggest you advertise it in the PCGB mag, Porsche Post, as any Porsche collectors will surely subscribe. More chance getting decent money there than Autotrader!
If it is truly mint/concourse, and you find a real 924 enthusiast, then I imagine 4-5k would be achievable. Sadly, if you don't find a collector or enthusiast of 924 shaped objects, then you would be very lucky to hit 2k. They are as little as 1k in the regional car rags, but those can be absolute dogs.
I would suggest you have a classic car as rare as, well, a nice 924, so value will solely depend on which way the wind is blowing and the buyer you can attract. Remember that iguana's decent A-reg 944 fetched about 3k recently and that was tidy, and that I gather there's a RHD 944S2 about to do the rounds for about 5k...

Go on then, pay me £1000 and I'll take it off your hands.
No, seriously, the best place to advertise your 924 is in through the Porsche club where you may fine a more "discerning" buyer, otherwise it will always be affected by the relative low value of "better" later cars, like the 944. I suspect that you will be lucky to see more than £2500 for it, as I for one prefer the 924S that is available for £1500-2500 at the moment.
Just console yourself that the price of the 911 you are buying has dropped more value than your 924 has whilst you have had it.
