Porsche reliability, or not ?
Discussion
You always here the TV journo's going on about Porsche's are bomb proof , but i stumbled across this website showing reliability and was very shocked, especially as i was thinking of buying a boxster! In short it said it was the worst car you could buy.
Any Porsche owners got any different views or do we live in a stereotype world when it comes to our perception of cars reliability ?

Ive not had any experience of modern Porsche but my S2 has been bomb proof. I am a firm believer in Modern cars not being made as solidly as they were back in the day. Ive known a lot of modern cars to have bits of trim fall off in your hand, wouldn't get this happening in a classic.
When we collected our Porsche it was never washed by me for the first 8 weeks with us.
This was because of the amount of time it spent back with dealer having niggles resolved and every time it went in, it received a service wash.
Having said that, the reliability was nothing compared to the 30% depreciation on it after 6 months.

Also wonder how that data was generated. If from customer feedback, you have to wonder what constitutes a failure on a Porsche, Jaguar etc compared to a Skoda, Kia etc.
Same as JD power data - if linked to customer expectations rather than objective performance, you get Hyundai performing better than Lexus. Sound likely?

Read the details....!
The Reliability index takes into account all factors of a repair, the cost of the parts and the frequency of failures - Average is 112 which means that if the figure for the car you are looking at has a higher than average index (118) the indication is that that car is less reliable than the average, if however there is a lower than average index (60) the reliability is better. Separately to this figure you can also look at the average cost of repairs for a particular make or model, a car with a poor good index and a high average cost (£500) would imply that the frequency of failure is low however when it does fail the bill will be a lot more than the average.
Ergo, they break down very rarely but cost a fvckload to put right.
