Can you please help us out? A mate of mine has a 'P' Plate Boxster 2.5 that he's had for about 4 months. It is destroying rear tyres in about a 1000 miles. The inside edge of both new conti's fitted a few weeks ago is back down below the legal minimum level again. The rest of the tyre looks a bit 'used' too. Any ideas? do they do things like Geometry checks at a Porsche specialists/main agent? Hope you can help? He's doing sensible commuting, no mis behaving donuts etc!

Cheers, D4V KC

Hi, thanks for that!
He's Based in Bracknell, Berkshire. Do you know where the nearest place is that could do it? Would the main agent cost a fortune or can specialists do it? Is the sort of thing only official Porsche Centres could do? (That's how it works with Lotus)

you need to take it to an OPC for a full 4 wheel allignment, costs about £215. If it's wearing out tyres that quick I'd be worried why the allignment is so far out in the first place. Has it had any accident damage etc?

He is either a proffessional drifter or has something slightly amiss with his suspension I would check it sooner rather than later, although if it is eating them that rapidy I would think even a visual check would reveal something!

Agree with the other posts... I'd also check the tyre pressures...

Just like to say many thanks for all the replies so far, I've checked tyre pressures, front alignment as a tiny bit out when i had the fronts changed... but they said literally only a tiny amount.
I've had the car about 4 months or so, it had an HPI check (which i had done before i got it) and everything was ok.
Unfortunately I'm not a professional drifter, or racing driver, or any of the others that may give a reason for this happening, so unfortunately looks like something is a bit wrong!
Tyre pressures are checked about every couple of weeks, and have been fine.

Is there anyone in the local area - around Berkshire or surrounding area, that may have used any local garages etc for this sort of geometry check... it certainly seems like I need to get it checked by someone - SOON!!!

Thanks

Your nearest would be northway in reading www.northwayporsche.co.uk/contacts.asp ask for Ray. If they can't book you in the GT1 in chertsey and ask for craig or failing that I have someone who does my race car that could do it at a push.

You best bet for the closest is Northway

Many thanks guys, I've just been in contact with the garage where I got the car from-- they've put me in contact with CamTune... so off there tomorrow to see what's gone so horribly wrong with the rear of the car!!

Thanks for all your advice etc.

I'd agree with the geo. check but not necessarily having it carried out by the OPC.....yikes

Tognola's in Datchet (near Windsor) has all the alignment gear, is a Porsche specialist, and isn't far from Bracknell.

I use Northway's for everything, but even they pointed me to Tognola for geometry...
