Intersting to see 2006 Cayman S prices are starting drop below £40k at main dealers.

As there is only a 2 year warranty on the Cayman I'd expect early cars to be coming up to the end of warranty. Are there private Cayman S changing hands in the lower £30's yet?

How so because the right S at that price would be a great used buy.

I'd be interested in one at £35k (if I find a half decent job). The trouble is that 02 facelift 996s should soon also be circa £35k.

think Cayman prices are still being held up as such a high % are in the OPC network

as supply increases this will change and price wil fall further psooibly reflecting the fact the list price was a rip off to the tune of £5k

Owning one I keep an eye on these on both the OPCs website and the PH / Top Marques type thing.

Used, from an OPC they don't seem to be mega bargains quite yet.

The "bargains" that do come up are limited on options. For example porsche.co.uk has one for £40k.. but it has no options so would have cost £44k originally. Ones that are around £45k at OPCs have about £5,000-ish of options. So, it all evens out.

I know that options are very difficult to value on resale but for a model that's only a year old they are having a considerable impact on used prices.

I think someone who is in the market for a used CaymanS would look at a few, and then veer away from the ones with no / few options.

As a very rough guide, the OPCs seem to be selling at £5k off their original price and buying for £10k less.

Not really.

I'm looking for one and the only options I want are:

Litronic
Decent wheels
Basic sport seats

Couldn't really give a toss about the rest of the options. They only add weight and increase the possibility of something going wrong.

Pure and simple every time for me, thanks.... oh and it has to be white (think '73rs)

There 54 plate 997S going for under £50k now. Makes the Cayman look more expensive.

Well everyone's different and there is no option list that is right for every person.

However, do make sure you look at a few as the options can change the experience somewhat. Personally I really wanted the wooden interior but that was a silly amount of money!

I've been keeping an eye on the price of used Caymans as they would be a contender when it comes to my next car. Currently the prices of used ones arn't tempting me, I was hoping they would get to the 30-35K range when they are 3 years old.

How are sales on new Cayman? I've not seen to many about, and I could do with a large supply to drive down the used prices.

Options to have imo: PASM, Sports Chrono, Short Shift, Bi-Xenons, Auto-Dim Int+Ext mirrors.

Auto-dim mirrors? Wow, never heard anyone order those before. PS. Those Bi-Xeon lights are absolutely incredible. Well worth it!

Silly discussion.. Cayman a massively compromised car that has a residual value that proves it..Cayman/cayenne,totally different cars produced by Porsche and both as equally as useless as each other in the arena they compete in..imo of course.

As a cheapskate looking for a cheap Cayman the current residuals are disappointly strong.

"Massively compromised"... compromised, yes but massively compromised, no.

"Residual value that proves it".. the OPC's selling (about) a year old car at (about) £5k off list implies it's about the same percentage-wise as a 997 C2S? That ain't bad.

As much as you dislike what the Cayman is, it does work from the point of view of being a product people buy. They intended it to "fit in the middle" on price & performance, it does, and it's not a huge failure as you implied above.

But what does it do BETTER than any other car?

It goes around corners better than my car.

Oh... unless you meant to say "better than ALL other cars"
