Anyone survived the Hull to Zeebrugge ferry in a 3 without losing any vital undercarriage?

Planning my Le Mans route and its a possibility.

Cheers

Most operators (although I've only used Calais) seem very experiences with getting low cars onto the boats. If there's likely to be a problem, then they'll have come across it before, and will be able to get you on ok. Just don't drive on without someone guiding you on and you'll be fine.

If you advise the ferry company when you check in they will normally be able to help you. Certainly Calis routes and I believe the same at Newhaven. not sure about the North, do they have roads up there?

Yes we do have roads, you'll find they are all paved with gold, have no congestion charges, there is space to use your Porsche properly and not just park it on or around the M25. We all have got plenty of money in our pockets and can afford to run and maintain our vehicles correctly without moaning about the fact that a Porsche widget is 3p more than a mondeo widget (lets be fair thats why we buy them)The North South divide is actually a marketing ploy by 'Yorkshire Forward' to make you southern softies think you are doing well and keep the heck away from us. Have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and propsperous New Year

gdunc - Not a problem on Hull ferries. We've done Hull to Rotterdam when driving to the Ring and we've had an array of cars with very poor ground clearance get on fine.

Now if you're talking about the Seacat from Dover, well thats a different story!!

I was just checking. ;-)

I can get up to 40 or even 50 mph on the M25. Fair point when I'm on my way up to see my folks on the M62 you can really open the car up without evening seeing another car. I do enjoy that.

Well played for not biting, well perhaps for not swearing....

P&O from Hull is a very nice way to travel down to Le Mans. My son & I have done if for the past 2 years Le Mans and can thoroughly recommend it.

We've also seen lots of exotica being loaded very carefully. You will probably put in a special area to avoid any chance of damage to your P&J. You also get to avoid the N138 radar traps as well.

Oh and we do have some of the BEST roads in the UK too

Its looking like a goer for me so the next thing is route planning - Do you have a preffered route? I thought the N138 was recommended over the main motorway?

I've heard that a lot of speed traps operate on the N138, as Mensieur Le Gendarme knows what us rosbief are like en route to Le Mans, but I guess so long as you're 'sensible' it should be ok. I've basically just taken the main autoroute via Paris peripherique and the most direct route to get there. It's still easy to get to Le Mans by 3 pm from the Zebrugge ferry without risking huge fines.

If you're specifically looking for 'interesting' roads, post on the 'Le Mans' forum or do a 'Lemon Ring' and take in both experiences whilst you're abroad like DucatiGary did ealier this year.

Murray, next time you are up North try going from Pickering to Whitby over Fylingdales, quick Fish and Chips at The Magpie, return same way. Then you'll really know why you bought a Porsche.

before going to France, check www.radarsfixes.com or www.radars-auto.com or www.controleradar.org/en.html or similar. Note though that these typically only cover fixed radars and there are quite a few mobile radars around too. Best never to exceed speed limit by more than 40 km/h

Slightly OT (sorry).

If you've got TomTom, get the speed camera downloads (NOT TomTom's own) for France, and add them to your SatNav. The "false alarms" are really warnings of favourite spots for mobile radar traps. I swear by them for keeping me out of trouble so far, and if you find any that are not on the database already, you can add them (as POIs) for your own use (or better still, send updates to the originating site).

Also, beware (sorry if obvious): If you're going downhill on an inviting stretch of road and you're the fastest car, you're asking for trouble. Had a near miss earlier this year. Judging by others' experiences (wetwipe, nervous, magictorch IIRC), Gendarme trouble will find you if you're in a GB registered Porker!

Enjoy!
