This time of the year I'm putting on weight every day, so I was thinking of putting my GT3 Mk1 on a diet.

But firstly, I wanted to find out what the respective weights are of a MK1 Clubsport (with aircon and full cage) and a 996 GT3 RS (with aircon) and - if anybody knows - that of a 997 GT3 (in Clubsport version with aircon).

Second, does anybody know what the total weight is of (i) a GT3 door, including electrics, interior panels, windows, locking mechanism etc, and (ii) the door shell alone ?

another way of asking the same question : apart fromn the famous badge on the bonnet, which parts on a 996 GT3 RS are lighter than a 996 GT3 Mk1 CS ? The impression I have there is little weight difference between the two (?)

The 997GT3's unladen weight is 1395kg. This is with standard seats and no roll cage. Air-con is standard.

Don't know all the components but I will start... I think the 996 GT3 RS has these lighter parts: -

Magnesium Hub Carriers
Carbon Front Storage lid (Bonnet)
Plastic rear window
...

I am sore someone more knowledgable will be along in a minute

iirc the official figures are

Mk 1 1350kg
Mk2 1380 kg
RS 1350kg

Not sure what the specs of these official figures are but would have thought they are directly comparable

The carbon rear wing is lighter, the full roll cage is a bit heavier than the half cage (or no cage) on a standard Mk1 or 2. Not quite sure about the full cage on a Mk1, but I think there is an extra bar somewhere on the RS cage, but I wouldn't expect it to equate to much. If getting picky, the fire extinguisher (if fitted) in a CS or RS is also a chunk of dead weight. The wheels and tyres on the Mk1 are smaller, and therefore could be a bit lighter too, but I don't have any numbers for that. The front brakes on the Mk1 are also smaller and a bit lighter.

Whether you are a fan or not of PCCBs (as may or may not be fitted to an RS or Mk2), they will make the car lighter than on stock steel (to a lesser extent the after market floating disk options from JZM & Parr are lighter too IIRC). I have seen numbers from 18kg to 30kg for the weight of the air conditioning system, though frankly I think that is irrelevent (if you can live without it. perhaps a cup car and trailer are more like what you want).

Someone who really knows what they are talking about will doubtless be along soon to clear all of this up though.

Sorry, but do bear in mind that you are reading a thread about where ~50kg between models of the same car adds up from. Few who could genuinely claim to have 'a life' would even be reading it...

And it is the black hole of Wednesday after all.

The whole engine lid and spoiler assembly is lighter on the RS than the mark 1 lid and spoiler, not just the carbon picnic table.

on the GT3 vs RS , slightly differnt note...

why is the 997 GT3 RS top speed 193mph and the 97 GT3 top speed 192mph? (well depending on where you look)

I'd have thought the GT3 would have a higher top speed than the RS

its small, the cynic in me noticed as the RS model 'needed' the official higher number....but its a widebody with a bigger wing coupled to the same powerplant.

perhaps the RS actually puts out more power; didn't the 996 RS regularly dyno at 400 or so??
