Hello All.
Just a quicky question..I bought my red 997 c2s in early Feb 06 from stock at my local OPC.. I read somewhere that the sat nav was updated in 06 to include some features such as I think post code facility etc. I have looked where my sat nav goes and found the disc packet with 2005 stamp on it. In short can I find out when my car was made?? Maybe coded into some numbers on the car?? month/date/year etc..
The reason I ask is that the 06 disc is maybe better and If I bought an 06 car maybe I should have it anyway. To be honest I had the car registerd end of March 06, but I fancy maybe its a late 05 model..should they tell me this when I bought it??
Any thoughts anyone?
Cheers...

The build year is included in the VIN number.

There's a VIN number reader somewhere that will tell you everything you need to know about your car --- but is it character 7 that represents the year ?

Thanks Chris..I am looking at my guarantee/maintenance book, they stick the vehicle ID number on page 4 its 7 digits ***-**** EG.
This is followed by model/model descr..Engine code/transm code...paint code/int trim then equipment code with lots of three digit codes (15 of them and one 5 digit code) The model number seems long compared with the VIN!

It would be handy if they gave you the code book I guess!!
Thanks Again..

I think the date on the disc is misleading.

2006 discs came out, I think, in April 06, and I was told that 2007 discs will probably be issued sometime in Spring '07.

I think it's the 10th character of the 17 charachter VIN that gives the model year. But you then need more info to narrow down the month. No sticker under the carpeting in the front compartment, perhaps near the paint code sticker? Or on one of the door jambs?

My previous 993 had a first registered date of 29 Feb 1996 but I contacted Porsche Cars reading to ascertain the month of manufacture (for insurance purposes).

If you write to them with your chassis number they will confirm month/year of manufacture.
