Hi,

I dont know if its just the cold weather or something but the fans behind the heater/fan controls in the dashboard intermittently squeal...

Its not constant and is only irritating as long as you arent adverse to driving with the gentle ambience of a 'constricted gerbil' - But is there a way of accessing these things and oiling/wd40 etc???

Cheers

Dom

In my SC it signalled the demise of the motor behind the dash. It is possible to replace just the motor (not the attached fan).

I'm having just the same problem with my Club Sport. It comes and it goes, but I guessed it was the motor on its way out . I will have my OPC check it out.

Sound origination points in 911's are often misleading. Are you sure it's not the footwell heater motors - they're easy to access and investigate behind the screwed in carpet panels.
I do have a noise from my cold air motor fan behind the dash that sounds like the one you are refering to. Funny thing is it only audible on LH turns. I guees it must be loose in the housing.

Well like i say if its the same as the 964 you can lubricate the bearings, its usually not necessary to replace the motors due to squeaking, normally lubricating the bushes/bearings will do, at worst new bearings can be fitted at minimal cost.

both the footwell fans and the fresh air blower behind the dash can be greased if squeaking. The way to tell on a 3.2 is to turn the cold air and cold air blow off (top control on later cars), then turn the switch between the seats to "7". If the squeaking starts, its the footwell blower fans. Otherwise if you set the switch between the seats to "0" and turn the cold air and cold air blower up (opposite of before) and it squeakes then it is the fresh air blower motor.

Footwell fans, are easy to get to, 3 screws hold the covers in the footwells, then they have a simple fused power wire and a housing held to the pipes by jublee clips. Simply undo these, then prise the clips of the housing to reveal the motor. They normally squeak where the blades make contact with the plastic motor housing. Apply liberal spray grease here and run the motor (in the same orientation that is mounted) until the noise stops.

Fresh air fan, bit more tricky to get to, basically, take boot carpet out, remove card support from bulkhead, then undo vent closing mechanisms. Housing can then carefully be removed. Motor is accessed in a similar way, and can be greased the same.

You can save a lot of cash doing this, a manual like bentleys will make it all far more clearer than this though.

Cheers chaps, I'll try and isolate the offending squeaker before trying to access anything. I dont want to go messing with anything that wasnt a problem and then end up with more than I started with rolleyes

Thanks
Dom
