Club Sport headlights
Discussion
I'd appreciate some advice whether other PH members have upgraded the headlights on a Carrera Club Sport (or 3.2 generally of the '87 - '98 era). I find that full beam is fine - good depth and brightness - but the dipped headlights are very poor - more like having someone wave a couple of candles at the road!
I'd be grateful for any pointers and experience.
Kind regards
Steve

Osram Silver Star bulbs offer a reasonable improvement from personal experience at minimal cost. Some owners also upgrade the relays, but you still have 90mph (as opposed to 70mph as standard) lights on a 150mph car.
A HIDS kit is certainly well worth considering if you're going to do a fair bit of night time driving.

Agreed, HID kits are good.
A good PH topic here:

However I feel on an older car, you sometimes don't want to compromise the originality of the car, so maybe a period set of driving lamps or rally pod would be good, especially if you do any night rallys or similar in it?

Thanks.
Do the Osram Silver Star bulbs require any changes to the wiring, or are they safe to use "as is"?
Kind regards
Steve

The Osram silver stars are OK to use with the standard wiring. An easy way to check is to confirm that the wattage (w) is the same as the bulb you are removing.
If you are serious about upagrading the headlights then get a HID kit as stated by others.

All I can say is that I did nothing to the wiring or relays & had no problems at all in approx 2 years of use. For £15.00 or so it's worth a punt in my view.
Of course with a CS, you do have to clean the lights yourself a bit more often than one of the more lardy cars with headlight washers.

Indeed! As I am standing by the side of the road getting wet cleaning the headlights, whilst others just flick their stalks, I don't know whether to feel virtuous or to curse the pursuit of lightness. But then I get back on the road and know the answer
