Just got a letter from the OPC inviting me to drive a 997S for 24 hours. I'm an ex 987 owner and there is no way I could afford a 911, unless I sell the kids, but I am hardly going to turn them down.

So what do I need to stay awake for 24 hours.

Remember to watch the alloys on the kerbs !! Someone on here had a bit of grief over this on a recent test drive as I remember.

You'll find a way when you've driven one!

I've just had a month in a 997 while I was having some work done on my 996. At first I thought it was a bit boring and "anonymous" but it really grew on me. Such an accomplished car...

Have fun!

I got a letter as well. Definitely going to take up the offer and see the differences between that and my 996. It does say there is age restriction though - does anyone know what this is?

I did this a couple of months ago, thought it was great. I think the age restriction is 25+.

So how heavy were the Salesmen when you handed it back?

Had mine just before Christmas. Convertible C4S on the one sunny day in December! No pressure from the salesman as I explained up front that i wasn't going to be buying another 997 any time soon, although I did return it at 8.30 in the morning and i think he just wanted a quiet coffee. Make sure you're happy with all the small print (usual stuff about them charging you for any damage and parking/speeding tickets) and have fun.

Not at all, they just asked me whether I'd enjoyed it. They even valeted my car for me.

When's the last time OPC's were so consumer friendly? They cant sell these over-priced NOW mass-produced cars so free 24 hour test drives are their last hope before they start slashing prices...

Im just mega-surprised that people cant see whats happening..Porsches are now throw away cars like nearly all other manafacturers and should be treated as such. Not specialist cars anymore because they arent.15 years ago a Porsche salesman was selling a supremely rare and awesome product compared to nearly anything, now 80% of the time he sells a car to someone who thought it had a pretty badge and the finance was good.We all need to wake up and understand this company..profit is the goal..quality,rarity and exclusivity for Porsche cars a distant past.

For Gawds Sake KayC - Will you turn it in. How can somebody that owns and loves his 911 Turbo be such a negative person? Cheer-up will you.

Agree with you on the above 'BUT' times, they are a changin'

ps - let them keep buying, they're paying for the depreciation on my 997 GT3

Good point, I was amazed to see that the 1st 997s, only 2 years old, are now below £50K. That is some hit for the first owners.

Don't believe that "car is still worth 60% of its purchase price three years later" rubbish. Thats just salesmen speak for "I can sell it at that price 3 years later after I have shafted you on trade in"

Mini salesman tried that one on me the other day and could not understand why I started laughing.

In fairness, the 997 was less than 60 grand when it came out, so £10k depreciation in 2 years isn't so bad.

Fair enough, can't quite remember how much they were when they came out anyway, thought it was about £56k for a carrera and 60ish for an S. Residuals still seem to be quite healthy, unlike the 996.
