Lotsa White Smoke! HELP!
Discussion
Remarkably normal for a horizontally inclined engine. Oil seeps to the bottom of the bores and gets toasted when you start up from cold. On vertical engines the oil slowly seeps past the rings so it doesn't usually happen.
The degree they do it is variable but they all do to some extent. It's usually worse if you spank it just before garaging it
As long as it clears in a few seconds there's nothing to worry about.

There's one or two things you can check to help diagnose .. Check the coolant level , if it's dipped below min this may mean it's seeping into the cylinders , if it takes only say a tea cup full to fill it back up , this can be quite normal though .. It's worth keeping an eye on the level periodically so you'll know if there's a sudden unexplained drop.
Other indicators might be if your red light comes on on the temp gauge (especially while having a blast ) indicates coolant a tad low..
White smoke blowing is a good indicator too , but you'll probably see it when pulling off at lights etc.not just on start up.
Check the oil cap to see for excessive gunk on the filler cap , anything more than a spoonful is worth checking out.
Also , Baz Hart ,a bloody good specialist who comes on line from time to time , has indicated that a blown coolant header tank may indicate back pressure from coolant boiling in the cylinders .. Have you blown a coolant header recently?
Please note all the italics ... I'm no mechanic , this is just a collection of bits I've picked up here to hopefully help ease your worries.
Hopefully it's the 'they all do that sah' blowing burnt oil residues that you're seeing.

Ballcock, I've told you about this before. They'll give you jail next time.
