Having recently sold my much cherished 944S2, I am now desperately seeking a minty example of either the 968 Coupe / Sport or 964. There's much of the latter on the usual websites but not really getting me too excited. Have a seen a few okay examples but just not cherished (unlike my much missed S2.) I have decided to opt against the 993 that I floated earlier as an option (thanks to Ajit and Ian amongst others for good counsel) and I think the 964 at GBP19k was too aggressive so i'm back in the market again but there's very little quality out there.

In either case, vehicle must have full history (OPC / Specialist) and already have necessary works undertaken commensurate with age (eg belts, clutch, flywheel etc). Only interested in manual transmissions and non-cabs with below average miles and totally original (eg no mechanical or engine mods) with full history files.

Can anyone help?!

There's no shortage of 968's about at present. This is reputedly a very well sorted car, if you're happy with LHD:

Have you spent any time on the 968 forum?

Cheers... yes have spent some time time on the site as well as pouring through back issues of the Porsche Post. Would really prefer the Coupe or Sport derivative if I opt for the 968 in RHD. Seeing a lot of Club Sport on PH and AT but the coupe (with the swanky electric bits and leather) seems in very short supply. Did view one advertised on PH with around 65k on the clock but was pretty tatty on the bodywork front. Just holding out for the 'right one'!

I think there's plenty about, so you should find one easily enough. There's no need to buy a tatty one, and if you like one with the bits on, again, that shouldn't be a problem if you keep looking.

I think you'll do a lot better buying privately than through a dealer though. Have you looked through the ebay classifieds - there normally seem to be a few on there.

Yes I have an automatic search set up on the 'bay... as you prefer to source privately. Your looks tight and clearly you've spent some money on it. What was the mileage when you bought it and for how much?

I know. I paid top dollar (privately) for my 944S2 and managed to sell it (and pocket a small profit) to the first viewer only a few days after posting the ad. Clearly at that price I should be thinking about a 964 as well but I'll buy on condition rather than model so i'll see what comes along. In the meantime, please do let me know if you see anything. Cheers!

I have a very nice 1990 964 C2 with 98K miles and plenty of history. It's silver with dark blue interior, and is described by the specialist who looks after it as "by far the nicest 964 we've seen in a long long time". It does have a small oil "mist" leak from one of the barrels but needs no attention at all. I have used the car as my daily driver for the last 6 or 7 months with absolutely no issues at all. The only mods are an immobiliser and a stainless exhaust, along with a Panasonic CD player, 17" Cup wheels and teardrop mirrors . I'm not actively looking to sell it, but a house extension looms and a sensible offer would be seriously considered.

Couldn't agree more with the comments on the price a nice 964 Coupe will make. Having been through the process of buying one and looking at loads of dross a really decent one will cost you more than many would think reasonable.

Ian.
