Like most, I guess, my GT3 occasionally suffers from a lack of use at this time of year and consequently the battery goes flat after a week or so. Who can tell me if Porsches take kindly to the use of a battery conditioner connected througfh the cigarette lighter?

Never had any problems with my previous Turbo mate. Always had it connected to fag lighter this time of year.

Don't think they get too annoyed, else they wouldn't be supplying them through the OPC network. Think mine was about £50.

I have a battery conditioner from Draper tools, it keeps the battery charged on my 964. I have left it standing for up to a month and it fires up first time and sounds very strong. These retail for about £18, but you do need to plug into wall and connect to battery so a garage is ideal.

Stuttgart needs more sleep and less coffee

Assuming we are talking about a 56AH ((ish) prob. about 30AH in winter) battery losing all charge in about two weeks (14 days), that means we are losing about 4AH per day, on average.

This means charging at 4 amps each day for 1 hour, to put it back in. So just run a regular cheapy 4amp charger to the car on a simple timeswitch, to give it one or two hours charge each day. Cheap fixed voltage chargers are mildly self regulating anyway, so you don't need to be too accurate on the time.

You can adjust the time as you want, Maplin sell digital voltmeters for about £5 that will give you the battery voltage to 2 decimal places so you can soon spot if the battery is being charged the right amount after a few days..
