9M.

After reading a couple of other threads I would like to ask a question.

I have a *very* new Boxster S. And for resale reasons will put it in for its servicing with the local OPC regardless of cost.

BUT. I do track days and so on and from time to time would like to get the car checked over, new pads discs and so on and I see no reason why I should not give that business to a good independent. In fact I'd rather do so, save myself a few bob and help keep Porsche on their toes by patronising the competition as it were...even if its just an inspection I'd be happy to pay the hourly rate for the peace of mind you see...

Now when I suggested this to a well known independent last year I was told that if they weren't getting the servicing business then they weren't interested - not enough money in the other stuff. (I am phrasing the whole lot a little more politely than the language that was used too...)

What would be your position on this. Please be honest. I have no idea if *any* independent would want to do this...

To me it sounds like a good idea to do your servicing at a well known place and the repairations elsewhere. At the end of the day you are getting good work done for cheaper

Any company who turns away business from that respect - well... good luck to them. They obviously "have more than enough business to bother with you"

Don, I always used to do the same - get your expert to do the non-service stuff and leave the chimps at the OPC to change the oil and stamp the book...any independent who follows the lead of your one won't be in business for long

We have many customers who do the same, indeed one guy takes his car to the largest OPC in the South and then trailers the car to us to check their work.

My policy is to do anything the customer asks for, regardless of their "preference" of service centre.

Thanks for your reply 9M. I am heartened to hear your reply. I wish your establishment was a bit closer! Still...nice weekend up in Cheshire...get the car fixed...go home. Not impossible!
