I am after some advice. I advertised my dad's 996 on PH some time ago. I had a couple of emails but not a deal of interest. I figured I was asking top money for the car, but it is pretty hard to value. Anyone any advise on it's worth?
Thanks in advance:

A well written advert for someone so young. Thanks in advance:

I would say it's worth approx £23 - £24k as a private sale. I would change the wording on the ad as there are too many "I think" etc. Be more specific on the service history and maintenance record. Best way to find a cars true value is to ask several specialists for a trade bid. Then work out your price from there.
Look at this one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dl
More miles, but younger, didn't even make £24k. It's often a sign of what they go for rather than are advertised at.

I would argue it has plenty of miles more - but that said I am looking for too much money, and indeed it is only worth as much as someone is prepared to pay for it.
I will hold out for £28k in the hope he keeps it long enough for me to inherit it
Thanks again.

Andrew, I just sold coupe with a much better spec, and an OPC warranty for much less than £28k
There's a 99 Coupe in the classifieds with 57,000 miles for £23,995 from a dealer. Haven't seen any evidence that cabriolets are worth significantly more.
Good luck with the sale.
Had seen this advertised a while ago - here are a couple of quick pointers:
1) Firstly don't mention that "you are selling your dads car"; it makes you sound like a teenager. Just an obervation.
2) Cabs will sell better around May time, not sayin you will get what you're asking for, just that you may have a better chance of selling it.
Personally I would value that car at £25-26k if it's had the 48k service done.
Good luck!
I have done some editing, I think I will take some advice and leave it until May / June. The car is sorn and will be until that point, so after it's annual service, MOT and 6 month taxing session it will be back on the market for a couple of quid less I guess

Just a thought on this "cabs are easier to sell in summer" line..
Friend of mine had a big juicy cab that he had for sale most of the summer with little interest. Come into the winter months and he had loads.
He speculated that perhaps the general perception is cabs are cheaper in the winter and so people wanting to buy one jump then?? Interesting theory.
I've had 4 cabs in my time - bought all of them in the winter.
It's a possibility...

PS. A car with very similar spec was advertised on my corporate intranet for 25k recently.

potential buyers will love that its been off the road for six months.
it stays off the road every winter, hence summer use only.
I'd try and hide that come sale time. Would certainly put me off.
I often think people tend to think the cars worth the average of the prices they see for similar cars they can find advertised - which I think is normally incorrect.
Instead, I'd suggest it's more accurately viewed as being "worth" about the same as the cheapest one you can find advertised, and if you advertise it a couple of grand above there, and be prepared to accept the lower figure you're closer to the mark.
