There is a lot that has been said about the 993 Turbo - wonderful. By the same coin the 993 RS has the same reputation.

However, I found today that there is very limited information about this car online. I was looking for particular information on how it stacks up against the Turbo and what it is like to live with on a daily basis.

The 993 RS is spoken about in breathless voices, but there isn't enough info on them (that I appear to have found!).

If anyone has experience of, or even better, owned both these cars I'd be grateful for a detailed account!

The Turbo is ballistic and v quick I know, how does the RS compare, or is a completely different kettle of fish?

Just do a search on this forum, there are many 993 RS & TT owners on here and we have posted countless times over the last few years. Dare I say it, but this forum is probably one of the best resources for owner experience on the net.

Also do a search on porsche club UK forum, lots on there.

I don't know much about the RS but I don't think many people would say it's usuable every day.

I owned an X50 993 TT, and that thing was AWESOME. Ballistic performance on every kind of road - I almost didn't mind cars or trucks pulling out in front of me to overtake slower traffic, as it gave me an excuse to wind the thing up and enjoy the mid-range explosion. I'd have one again if I could find one as nice as mine was. With 50% less power, a 993RS is all about delicacy and feel. I've been behind 993s on track, and have watched them drift at relatively small angles for unfeasibly long amounts of time - something you could never do in a TT. You buy a TT for the drivetrain and an RS for the chassis. I've lived with Caterhams and Lotus everyday - so either 993 variant would be a very comfy day-to-day car as far as I'm concerned. Certainly the TT was a pleasure to live with.

Autocar 993RS review here:
www.verysideways.com/pages/cars/993rs.htm

I have owned 4 993's including a lightly modified turbo (450bhp/500lbft) and i went back to a naturally aspirated car. I think some people will see the 993turbo/gt2 as the ultimate evolution of the 993, and others will see the RS as the ultimate evolution of the 993.

Personally, having tasted a bit of both, i think a 993RS Comfort with aircon would be my ideal daily driver but i'd decimate its value by throwing mileage at it.

So what do you want more of, communication and fluidity or outstanding ability in every area at the expense of some of that intimacy?

Nice post VS, enough to make you want to go out and get one

Frankel, obviously enjoyed the car, he and his brother bought left hookers, both cars now owned by PH members

Can't we have a proper handbags at dawn punch up, like we do every time 996 TT vs GT3, or GT3 vs 964 RS etc. gets raised

Personally I lusted after a 993 TT for years (still think they are great road cars), but for my current useage I would absolutely love a 993 RS. In fact John Probert's would do me just fine lick

Frankel's brother crashed a red LHD 993 RSCS at the ring a good few years ago made a right mess of the front end.

What's that got to do with the price of fish?

Screw what it drives like... this is just gorgeous. And I'll be its no slouch either!

I think for my current purposes (as an only car) I would appreciate the comfort of the TT over the RS, though as a second car RS - no contest!

Well if you were there JC, that certainly clears that up!

The only reason I stated non CS was that on the occasions I have seen the car, post incident it appeared to be a decent CS reproduction, with a red bolt in Heigo cage rather than the factory welded in Matter cage......must have been some knock to have destroyed the cage yikes

You must drive them both......also you might be hard pushed to find a good 993RS in RHD, most were left-hookers ( that might not bother you tho' )...I love the TT for its grunt, so would recommend them...but , of course , I'm biased.
