Nurburgring advice please....all please read
Discussion
My best friend has been given "a few" months to live. 31 years old and has terminal cancer. He's still able to drive and function pretty normally at present.
We are trying to organise a trip of a lifetime, probably for next weekend or the weekend after. He wants to drive The 'Ring and he has my GT3 and E30 M3 to do it in.
We've never been before, and need advice on where to stay, what to do and not to do. (The cars are both ready, tyres/brakes/suspension etc are all done.)
There'll be no heroics, we know it's a dangerous place. Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.
Apparently the Nurburgring Dorint is already fully booked. Cost is inconsequential.
Thank you all.

This website is superb - it answers every possible question you may have about going to the Ring

Hi There Oppo and sorry to hear of the sad news. A few great friends of mine and myself go to Ring a lot. The best place to stay for good food, beer and atmosphere is the Pistenklause in the village. There are great pictures and moments displayed on the walls and the place reeks of nostalgia and good humour as well as love of racing and cars in general. Hope you guys have a great time and be safe there, it takes at least a couple of hundred laps just to 'Know your way round'.

Check your e-mail regarding this.
Sorry to hear about your friend, shows that you are a true mate, for arranging a final trip of a lifetime for him!
As has been said the most nostalgic hotel to stay at is the Tiergarten in the Nurburg Village.. link www.am-tiergarten.de/
The restaurant in the hotel is called "Pistenklause" .. recommend steak on the stone.. hmmmm can taste it from here
Check ring opening dates at the links posted, if weather was bad it will be closed. Was there last weekend after collecting my car from Manthey, did 4 laps on the Sat, but track was very slippery.
Good Luck!

Can anyone advise me approximately how long the drive is from Calais? assuming (reasonably) sensible speeds.
took us about 6 hours through traffic.
with a few stop offs aswell.
the food in the pistonclause is great btw, just dont go mad like I did and order more than one dish, they do BIG portions!
Edgar Manthey still has the mansion we rented, 12 garages, 26 beds, sky tv in every room, breakfast served etc, im sure if you pay a bit more than the going rate he will let you stay there if it aint occupied, if you aint sorted anything else and would like more info drop me a line.
the whole experience was amazing, not just the track but the little things like going the shops.
"ohh theres the new lotus esprit thats coming out in 2009" "ohh look the R8, aint that out next year" "new aston?" etc.
a trip to the garage is crazy, race drivers with full flame proof suits filling up development vehicles, I love the place.
