club sport or sport ?
Discussion
Hi all
looking to buy a 968 around april time if the right car is available, however this will be my first porsche purchase and I want it to be perfect. The question is Club Sport or Sport ?Is the CS that much better and the deleted items do you miss them?I have a young boy and would not consider a CS without the fixed recaro seats but will my little man's car seat fit in the front ?
Any advice will be very appreciated.
Regards Rob

CS is really best suited to honing around a track. Needs the M030 package or later after market suspension to work properly, preferably a LSD as well. Buckets seats are quite tight and so don't know whether a child seat would fit within the side bolsters. If it's a car that will spend most of it's life on the highway rather than a track then I would strongly urge you to go for the Sport version as it's a lot more comfortable for everyday use.

They are so similar its probably more important to buy the better car. As both are meant to be quite focused you'll need one which has has suspension bits replaced relativley recently otherwise you may well not really get the full experince. I had a CS and never really needed the rear seats. Our baby seat would not fit in the fixed recaros but I'm sure you could find one that does.
The Coupe, Sport or CS will all be good on the track but components will be worn on all variants so best to get the spec you want and budget for some new suspension and other mods (unless you buy one with them already done).
The cars are getting on now so it is best to buy on condition and dont get hung up on milege. My CS just has the comfort seats from the Sport and I use a booster seat for my Son but only take him on short journeys. I think the rear seats in Sport and Coupe models can pose a problem for boosters too.
If you can put up with the lack of rear seats, electric windows and mirrors then a CS is fine but dont pass on an excellent example of a Sport or Coupe.

Rob, Sport is the best option if you want it as the daily driver as mine is used. There is no noticable difference on the road between the CS and Sport as they were all built as CS`s on the production line. The Sport having usefull options such as central locking, electric windows and mirrors. Many CS`s came with the sunroof and comfort seats fitted and some even have the electic items and rear seats fitted too. So the intentional weight saving factor of the CS, in reality isn`t really much in the UK cars. Most lightweight CS`s with no sunroof and electrics but with recaro`s and the M030 options are all LHD and good ones are very rare.
Another advantage to the Sport is that there are quite a few for sale at the moment and don`t forget they only made 306, making it quite a rare car .

Worth bearing in mind that the original reason for the CS was cost saving - it was about £30k new compared to £40k for the Coupe - hence was built without the options/goodies etc. The Sport had a few basic electric items fitted as that's how many UK CS's were being specified.
It's very rare to find a UK RHD CS or Sport with air con if that's important to you - a Coupe may be a better bet if it is & is likely to be cheaper and certainly rarer than the CS & Sport.

Just goes to show how much new car prices, esp Porsches, have fallen in 'real' terms over the last 10 years.
