when i go over speed humps i get a creaking sound from the front.

it sounds a bit like, well, er, someone bouncing up and down on a bed.

the creaking seems to be getting a bit louder.

i'm guessing that i need a new suspension set up.....but is there anything else it could be?

It's more common in the cold weather, it's either:

a) Front wishbones need a bit of lubrication
b) Steering rack bushes need some greasing/cleaning away oxidisation

Had both of these on my car

Isn't there an issue of creaking windscreens on 993?

Usually anti roll bar mountings or wishbone bushes on a 993. You can try dousing them in WD40 this will get rid of the squeak temporarily and will also confirm where the noise is coming from.

Windscreen squeak sounds quite different.

I'd put my money on the windscreen rubber. Try some Mr Sheen. That and a good strut brace (cough email me)

Although windscreens do squeak it sounds like you have a noise from the front dampers.

It can be from the wishbones or the antiroll bars and if it is the wishbones we provide fully reconditioned ones for not only 944/968 (which we are well known for) BUT ALSO FOR 964/993, 993 LOWER VEE ARMS AND bOXSTER/996 TRACK CONTROL ARMS - all at cost saving compared to new Porsche prices.

The Boxster/996 track control arms do get noisy quite early in their life although the ball joints take longer to wear out - however ours come with both replaced and as new.

Baz,

can you elaborate on the re-conditioned arms? How do you rebush them ? what with and how much do they cost for a 993?

cheers

The 993 wishbones come with new silent blocks (correctly matched rubber specification) - all refurbished and painted etc. We do not supply the bolt-on ball joints with these as they have never been needed yet and can be fitted seperately if required. The wishbones cost £110.00 + Vat retail.

We also supply the rear lower vee arm with 2 new bushes and a new ball joint for £150 retail (+Vat) - (I think these are £273 + vat from Porsche).

Boxster track control arms (front or back) have new silent block and ball joint and retail @ £75.00 + Vat. The ball joints are not available seperately and like many of the new Porsche ball joints are formed in the casting and we have special measures to enable us to recondition them.

In a few months these new products will be publicised in the usual magazines.

They can all be supplied ex stock and before the old one is returned (with a surcharge refundable later) so you can fit them when you remove the old ones.
