Funnily enough I saw a copy in my dentist's waiting room a few weeks ago.

Think it was 10 of the best 911 and the top 3, IIRC, were the 2.7RS, 911 'Club Sport' and 964RS.

It's one of my all time fave articles. The 993 RS is John Probert's.

I think the 993 RS was very hard done by. Especially (even before the Evo article) when Autocar declared the 993 RS second best car ever after the Mac F1 (I think that's what happened).

To be fair, when we did that shoot I would have obviously prefered the 993rs to have scored a little higher but after a flat out hoon over the Yorkshire moors in the little 2.7rs..nuts............I think it easily deserved the win!!!!

If I recall, the objective of the test was not to necessarily find the 'best' 911(s), but the one(s) that best reflected the 'spirit of the 911' -hence the success of the 2.7RS/911CS/964RS, because their simplicity most accurately defines the 911.

That was the impression I got from the article,,,,they decided the 2.7RS was the winner and selected the runners up out of those which had similar characteristics.....one way of doing it I suppose.

Odd that 964RS is ahead of 993RS as, unlike 993RS, it is barely useable on anything other than marble smooth track, where it is equal to 993RS.

Equal...on track with it's standard 260bhp....vs 993RS with 300bhp and better handling and braking ??????

Having driven the 2.7RS, CS & 964RS you can see the progression of the lineage and their train of thought, that is why the 3.2 CS faired so well, 993RS clearly wasn't on that particular radar screen...

Remember buying that Evo edition when it came out but must have chucked it out. Tried to get a copy from Evo but they didn't have any. Thanks for the link.

I was being polite! The fact that 964RS is unuseable off track makes it a no contest versus 993RS.
