I have a problem with the engine cooling fan as it wont turn off! It drains the battery overnight and then I am unable to start it the following morning. Ive taken the fuse out which stops it but id really like it working again! Got any ideas on a solution chaps?

Sounds like the thermal switch may be the culprit. See here www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/cool-05.htm

Heading into the wilds of guesswork a little here, but it's probably a thermostatically-controlled switch somewhere in the engine. Given that 924's have a lot of VW bits on them (like 944's - see my profile), I'd bet that it's what's known as the wax-stat, and it's bolted into the side of the radiator (look for something which resembles a conically-shaped bolt about an inch in diameter with two wires going to it.)

If you pull the wires out of this, the fan should stop. If this happens, the switch is probably duff. If it is, a new one for about £10 is an easy swap (but it will piddle coolant everywhere in the process - do it with a cold engine or you WILL remove all the skin from your hand!)
