Silly question, but did anyone get interest back on their £10k deposit when they collected their Turbo/GT3?

Being naturally frugal(ahem, coughs lightly!) I like to cover all the angles where possible!

Yes. I got interest, a bottle of bubbley, flowers for the girlfriend and a letter of apology for the delays on GT3 delivery.

Sadly that's a compliment I can't accept! I lie a lot too, there were no flowers ..........................................................................................................................or bubbley, or interest, or letter! I just didn't want Grant to feel he was totally alone in whatever strange little world he was inhabiting when he wrote his original post I'm so sorry.

Grant - I also tried this angle. My "lost interest" equates to £416 (£10,000 x 5% x 10/12) as they will have had my money for 10 months.

The response I got was something like.... and?....your point is?....what do you expect us to do?....you've just been f***ed etc etc.

I cant complain though as they've thrown in some FREE MATS WORTH £72 (but which probably cost them about £30). cry

and there i was thinking you had discovered the true source of alchemy.

nope not turning water into wine, iron into gold, (its "green m'lord)but managing to get cash back from an OPC after you had handed it over.

Good chap, a man after my own heart, us "tighter than a gnats chuff" types should stick together.....

Some people seem to think it makes you seem "cash strapped" if you dare ask for discount or throw ins at an OPC, sod that I say, get asking, that folding stuff is hard earnt!

Ps well done on the mats, that is one for the good guys.

You should probably use an after tax rate, so say 3.0% and because of compounding the 'correct' calculation would be £10k * ((1.03)^(10/12)-1) which works out at £250.

In effect though the placement of the deposit is a bit like buying a call option - by placing the deposit, you have the right but not the obligation, to enter into an agreement to purchase the GT3 on advantageous terms (i.e. at list price, but at the front of the queue).

The lost interest can therefore be thought of as representing the option premium - to see whether the £250 represents good value, you'd probably need to use an adjusted Black-Scholes method, but that's probably getting a bit silly..............

I wouldn't worry too much on the amount of interest lost, its insignificant compared to the depreciation you lose as soon as you drive out the showroom.

I have nothing but admiration for both of you. I just feel that you appear to have a somewhat tenuous grip on the realities of dealing with Porsche! Incidentally my OPC has bunged mats in free with every car I've had from them. I thought that was normal?

Absolutely!!!

I'm going to have a big arm wrestle with OPC Reading (aka the Mothership) when they finally get my car in. What's on the wish list then?

Mats
Flowers for other half
Bubbly (preferrably vintage)
Porsche stuff for the kids
Porsche model for me (got one already but I'll have another if they're free)
Car cleaning stuff
Mobil 1

That should do it!
