My 993 just failed its MOT on a pair of rear Rossos which have done less than 4k. They are worn pretty evenly so I am guessing its not geometry.

I'm not really agressive with the car and have always got at least 10 k from tyresv so I think its time for a change or tyre. The fronts are assimetricos and are fine after 10k. So if anynone has a set of 285/30/18 assimetricos they want to get rid off let me know.

Assuming not I'll change all four. Contisports always get a good vote. Anynoe else sugggest anything else?

4k is about right for Rossos if driven with a bit of gusto

Bridgestone S-02 (not the A version though)

Another vote for Bridgestone S-02 - excellent.

My last two 911's have been a 1996 993 Carrera 4 and a 2000 Mk. 1 GT3.
I've tried Bridgestone SO2's Contisport, Pirelli Assymetricos ( worse for wearing and noise ) and Michelin Pilot Sports. All N rated of course.
For me the Michelins have proved to be by far the best. You may pay a bit more but IMHO it's worth it.

I'd be torn between Conti SportContact 2 N2 or Bridgestone S02 but you won't be able to find the S02 in the rear size (285/30ZR18), only the S02A (which isn't as good).

Go for the Conti's.

I ran a variety on my C4S (did 23k miles in a year in it) and S02/S02A/Conti on my 993tt (same sizes as the C4S) and even now on my C2 i'm on the Conti's.

FYI, I ordered some SO2's from mytyres.com last month in 285x30x18 - they took a while to be delivered but there are still some around.

I've had three rear sets of Rossos. My record so far for lastability is 5k.

The sidewalls are too soft and wobbly for me anyway, so i'm changing to Contis next...

Are there any other rear Pirelli's that work with front Rossos?

Went with Michelin in the end. Black circles did me a great deal and confirmed they tend to last rather longer with no obvious trade off in terms of grip. They were alos in stock immediately, which is what I needed

Time will tell - thanks for the help

Fronts only 10% worn. Backs about 20% at the moment.

James, i found the Michelins slightly more expensive, didn't last appreciably longer than the Conti's, and were very noisy for some reason.

Would be very interested to hear your thoughts on them when you've done a few miles...

Prefer the Michelins over the Conti`s - have had both at one time or another on my Boxsters (had GT3 alloys on one and Turbo on the other). Found no discernable difference in noise but found Michelin lasted a lot longer and inspired more confidence in the wet. Always surprises me how much tyre choice can affect how much you enjoy the car. Just put new Rossos on my 997; was not impressed with them at first. Now they have done 1000 miles and i`ve upped the tyre pressure, we are back to normal operting procedure .... yee ha ! biglaugh

I've just ordered some Michelin Pilot Sport N1s for my 993 C2S - come highly recommended by many over on 911uk. Ordered them from my local Costco - they're currently running a 20% discount on a set of 4 - came in at £579 all in, fitted (225/40 & 285/30 18s). I had a shop around and this price is cheaper than any other premium brand of Porsche N spec tyre, including the legendary Bracknell Tyre guys.

The MPS N1 is now the latest tread pattern (as fitted to new 997s etc) rather than the older diagonal type pattern which was a great tyre, but where the high noise reputation stems from. Apparently the newer ones are much quieter and perform/wear really well. Time will tell!

Make sure you don't look away from your plate when we hook up for that curry, cos I'll be armed with a bottle of TurboLax and might accidently on purpose empty it's contents Dumb and Dumber style into your curry. Your Mable grey hide might be closer to sh!t brown by the time you get to Lower Earley yum
