Lots of postings on here re the GT3 as opposed to the GT2, generally because of the launch of the 997. However, what are the main differences between the two? Reading some threads the GT2 seems highly desirable fetching high prices. Is the general concensus that a GT2 is a good buy with strong residuals?

Main difference is that the GT2 is turbocharged, with all the differences in power delivery (and noise) that brings.

Not sure that 996 GT2s are reaching the "highly desirable fetching high prices" status yet - that is reserved for the infinitely more collectable 993 GT2.

They won't ever fetch the premiums that the 993 gt2 does as it doesn't have the same motorsport heritage and it isn't as raw....however residuals are looking stronger and they seam to be selling at advertised prices of 65-70k so it all looks pretty encouraging. Obviously lower mileage straight cars are the ones that will return the best prices in the future as they become more and more rare. I don't think i will be changing mine any time soon....it's my perfect car.

The difference between the two is that GT3 drivers have a longer life expectancy...

True, but who wants to be a Giant Turtle?

I think the GT2 is rarer than the GT3, and in my view looks a lot better. The GT3 has pedigree and will probably enjoy a sweeter depreciation/appreciation curve.

If you're thinking about either, consider the RS, the looks are somewhere in the middle, but it does have an aura and this will be great for values.
