flashing lights (993)

after the delights of a cracked windscreen this morning (Autoglass to fix on Thursday) i arrived home tonight, locked the car and something else happened.....
rather than the usual immobiliser light display, the red lights near the gearstick were quick-flashing in an unusual pattern. and after a couple of minutes the hazzards flashed on and off for 20-30 secs and then stopped.
anyone have any idea what happened? i tried locking and unlocking the car/mobilising and imobilising the car but this didn't seem to make any difference. the same thing happened.
it does now seem to have stopped but i'm wondering what it was? if i need to do anything? or if the immobilizer will go off at some point in the night, making me the least popular person on my street.
can anyone put my mind at rest?
