Heard a while ago that the handling on a 996turbo could be improved significantly by lowering only the front suspension (around 10mm). Anyone done this?

Is the suspension fully adjustable? How much do you have to change it to make a noticeable difference?

Hi Will.

An excellent choice of colour, I see you're a newish poster, welcome aboard.

I've not heard this rumour. I know I occasionally have a problem scraping the front lower spoiler so I'm steering clear of such mods. Are you not happy with the handling?

I doubt if OPCs will be much help changing the spec away from how it left the factory. I am not aware of the suspension setup being adjustable other than by changing components. Have you spoke to any of the aftermarket tuners/race prep companies? We've got one who posts around here quite frequently.

9M are you out there? Anyone else got an opinion?

Not quite the same colour as yours, Daz - mine's Meridian. Hides the dirt a bit better!

Anyway, I heard that lowering the front suspension eliminated tendency to understeer and that all press cars were modded this way.

I have noticed that the turbo ride is softer (maybe just more compliant) than my old 996C4 with sports suspension, which is odd because I thought they would be the same. Not complaining too much though

Dunno if it's relevant to the 996 here, but the 360 Challenge and N-GT cars apparently have the front suspension lowered (and the steering tow-in set at neutral, or parallel) this apparently eliminates understeer, so I've got mine booked in to have this done in a couple of weeks, I'll let you know what I think!

Thanks, Charlie - will be interested.

BTW I see you are also a 4motion owner. My 4motion has developed a really annoying creaking noise when I go over bumps or round a corner faster than it's shed-like construction would prefer. I heard rumours that this was a common problem. Perhaps it's a design feature to save the shopping

HI Wilr (& Dazren & Charlieslow360 !)
used to have Carrera2 on standard suspension, now that understeered !! But to be honest I don't find that my Turbo does (& I do press on rather !!) maybe it would be worth having your OPC check your cars wheel alignment. As far as I am aware the next suspension mod is 30mm below "standard" the Turbo run's 10mm lower, the same as a Carrera on sports suspension. I have heard that the 30mm drop creates a filling looser on the road & can actually unsettle's the car on bumpy B roads (good on track though)as Dazren says that front spoiler would be even more dented !!

My V6 4-motion has all sorts of squeeks and rattles not great for a car that's less than a year old..but then I'm not outrageously bothered, as it's only a shoping trolley and not at all bad for that!

Grant, is that Charlie's low 360, or Charlie slow 360?........ Regards the lowering on the 360 the suggestion is that it helps the aerodynamic downforce and therefore the grip on the front, although I'm not sure I believe it myself it may just stiifen up the front which as Grant says will be great on the track but a handful on B roads (the 360 is already a handful on bumpy b Roads when pressed, so could become a real horror show ) Still I thought I'd try the setup and see how it goes, Will let you all know!
