Had 04/04 Boxster 550 for just over 2 weeks now and one emblem from centre cap came off when driving, and others loose. Apparently this is a known problem with glue reacting etc!? Car has extended warranty, but dealer in Leeds advised to go to PGB as 'cosmetic' (unless it hits a passing car/public in the face?!) Car is one previous owner with 7.5K miles on clock and immaculate condition.

Response from PGB - you've brought Porsche nothing, and proven no loyalty as not bought from an official dealer and so why should we give you anything back. We don't know the history or how its been treated (serviced at 2,000 miles and 4000 miles by OPC).

Mentioned that I currently can not afford a 'new' porsche however like many am loyal to the brand, have used my OPC for servicing/mot/parts on my previous boxster, am considering extending the warranty, servicing/MOT on current car and aspire to upgrade in the future to a new one - response of well you could promise to buy a new one in the future and go and buy a second hand one from an independant again! Although not word-for-word this was the dialogue, and questioned the official response of 'you've brought nothing to us'...I was genuinely shocked at how uncooperative and dismissive the 'Customer Assurance Advisor' was - especially when the claim was for for a maximum of £120 for all 4 centres, or £30 for the one which has fallen off...it's not necesserily the money, but the sheer disapponitment and off-putting response of their attitue.

Sorry for the drawn-out rant, but anyone with previous experience/advise o this would be appreciated...one unecesserily disheartened/pi$$ed off Porsche 'enthusiast'.

It's probably fair enough for them to turn you down, but you'd think they would try and do it in a nice way eg or at least offer you a discount on the replacement parts.

If I were you, i'd save the b1tch slapping until you need a new engine. I supect if you look down the back of the seats you'll find enough cash to replace the wheel caps...

As I said its more a principle thing and shock at how they were...not necesserily the claim issue but the whole attitude of "you've given us nothing etc" Already had a look for loose change under the seats, but no joy I'm afraid, so only leaves me with "b1tch slapping I'm afraid

FFS I'm on Porsche's side on this one. Why should they keep on maintaining your Boxster for you?

I agree, its a 3 year old car outside of new car warranty, why is it their problem. You will complaining next that the back tyre is bald and the key fob is worn so you want a new one.

Where did you buy it from and why arent you making it their problem?

abarber you are missing the point of principle here.
I had exactly the same problem with the wheel centres on my 911. Basically the construction and material was total crap.

Why should I or anyone else for that matter have to pay another £125 to replace defective items with more defective items on a vehicle worth £87500 new ?

PGB attitude is nothing short of a disgrace. These people should be reminded that without us buying the product they are out of a job.

I do wonder what Herr Wiedeking in Stuttgart would have to say about the matter.

As I've said right from the first post - its not the specific issue/cost (condensation in headlight also knocked back btw) but the nature of response from PGB. Obviously I have "more important things to worry about" but can't afford not to ask the question over 120 quid - actually quite a lot of money to a 30 yr old with a mortgage etc! Anyway, appreciate the views/advise on this and just hope nothing major goes wrong with it!

How things have changed, back in 1995 I bought a 911 turbo, used from an independant but noticed the previous owner had marked the head lining.
Took car to OPC and complete new lining fitted foc as a gesture of good will from Porsche

They were the dayssmokin

Can I suggest if anyone is worried about these pesky badges flying off, remove the badge from the cap, clean up the glue residue and then restick using windscreen sealant (sikaflex). Make sure you use the primer on both surfaces first. Works perfectly as the sikaflex is slightly flexible and so will not crack like a glue that sets hard. Maybe I should email Porsche...

But more anecdotal evidence of why the "hewn from solid" reputation that Porsche USED to have is no more. Look at Mercedes' reputation now....

Sounds a good idea. You can buy the full (genuine) wheel centres via eBay for less (last set of 4 I got were £77), but you will also find just the badge available separately - under a tenner. A full mastic-gun tube of Sikaflex is about the same or less, but I'm sure you'll get a free dab of it with bit of begging at most decent bodyshops.

When it's time to change your car you could always go back to the Porsche dealer ship in Leeds, then go left insted of right as you walk in and buy a nice new Lotus instead.

That'll teach 'em!

erm, forgive me for asking a silly question, but WHY is the car out of warranty? Surely 04-plates only started in March 2004, so the car is less than 3 years old.

Or have Porsche SO MUCH faith in their cars they only give a 2-year warranty?

Either way, given the mileage and history of the car such a reaction is piss-poor from a company selling a prestige product.

Edit: Just googled, and it is 2 years...can't believe it! Z4 and S2000 both have 3 year warranties with longer paint warranty too.

So am I.

If you'd bought from OPC then they'd have sorted it and given you coffee and bicuits and nice busty receptionist to play with, and probably valeted the car for you as well.

You bought outside the network, so why should Porsche buy you new wheel centres out of the goodness of their hearts? They're not a flipping charity, mate!

Maybe you think they should come and clean it for you once a week as well, and empty the ashtrays when they're full? It twenty quid off ebay for god's sake, just buy a new one and enjoy the car.

Yes, you pay over the odds to buy at OPC, but when my glovebox hinge broke it got fixed for free and they lent me a Turbo to play with for two hours. It's all part of the experience. You can get a steak at Aberdeen Angus for £5, but the experience will be piss poor. You get the same £5 cut of meat at Petrus and pay £20 for it, but the experience will be amazing.

You get what you pay for, no?
