I know, get back into my tvr hole from whence I came...grumpy Just one more daft question I promise.

I don't think I'll go for the brown 911 after much deliberation...however, how about this as a potential project?.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?

I'm guessing something major in the engine has snapped, cracked or gone a bit t1ts up, and would anticipate a rebuild. I can do engines, however have never attempted a flat six. But....it's only nuts and bolts. hehe and time isn't a problem as I'm a nightmare without something mechanical to fiddle with.

I don't know the prices of porsche engine parts, and obviously they won't be as cheap as V8's, but what is a 'realistic' cost of rebuilding this 3.0? Preferably not with 100% new bits, but a bit of common sense thrown in. (I'm presuming the metallic rumbling is the crank, but till it's apart appreciate nothing can be guaranteed.)

Or, tell me to bugger off back to my tvr's...

Can't understand why the owner goes to great lengths to impress upon us that its a fantastic car and then doesn't at least get a quote for repair and instead just bungs it up on eBay.

I'd be suspicious that they know exactly what's wrong with it and have decided its cheaper to give the problem to somebody else...

I thought the same thing pete, but if a rebuild is going to say, cost me £1000 if I do the work, then if the rest is so good, it's worth a thought.....thumbup

I think this dodgy car is already fully valued at the level of the top bid - £5k.

Spoken to the owner...

Slightly different to description although similar..it was driven quite a long way, then left for a few hours, moved along the drive and 'pop'

Since then has been started for people to listen to the 'noise' Other than that, allegedly was a very nice car, all numbers match etc etc, guess it's a case of weighing up how much it would cost me to rebuild the engine..

hmmm

It really does sound very dodge!

Can you imagine owning this 'perfect' car , then getting an unusual sound from the engine one evening , and deciding 'Fvck it ,I couldn't be bothered finding out what's wrong with it, I think I'll sell it as is ... '

It's about 40 hours labour to rebuild an engine like this plus parts. Labour cost would be around £2000 but if you are doing this yourself then you save that. Parts and machining will cost anything between zero and about £8000 depending on what you find when you take it apart.

Ian.

There also appears to be something amiss with the passenger side headlight.

Thanks Ian, nice to have some sort of a 'man hours' tally.
As for bits, I guess it's a case of opening it up and having a gander really...

Good spot, missed that, looks like the headlight itself has dropped back, well, thats comparing it with the other one.
