back to the future

What do you all think of the old school look coming back for the forthcoming 997? Personally I love those cute little 993 round headlamps. And the flared rear arches too.
As awesome as the 996 is technically, it does lack that certain character of the 993, don't you think? I hope the overall proportions of the 997 can do the air cooled models proud.
In a few years when the 997's are all around us, I wonder how we'll all look back on the 996 era. It may well be the only time in the 911's history where the icon had 'odd' shape headlamps. I imagine the 993's will retain strong residuals because of this.

i have seen quite a few different pictures over the last few months, some may or may not have been photoshopped.
I really do like the looks of 993 and it was partly the looks of the turbo front that sold me a facelift 996.
however i really need to see one in the flesh,i am not sure about this whole retro lark, plus it it appears to favour the interior of the cayenne.
With respect to 993 values, they will do ok,but you have to consider tht the first ones are coming up to 10 years old and will very soon be out of the Porsche dealer network into the realms of the specialist. They will have a different ownership profile.
You can buy some headlight masks from tech-art,they fit over the silver bits if 996 front lamps.Once sprayed body colour they blend in with the wing only leaving the actual headlight lens & foglight exposed.
This looks very much like the proposed 997 front..I think these will sell very well once 997 is actually on the road.

I think the latest lights are little over stylised, going BACK to round lights is a retro-grade step. If I wanted a Beetle I'd buy a VW !! The latest shape is sleek & supercar-ish, the old shape never floated my boat, but then again each to his own !!
993's only hold their value's better because 1/ they were the last of the aircooled models 2/ they sold in far lower quantities than the 996 hence there are less available on the S/H market =supply & demand affects prices etc etc 3/ They were more expense to buy new than the 996. Oversupply is affecting 996 prices not headlamps !!
