Its finally bloody happened, my first problem with the cars and its bloody electrical.

My cars headlights have been funny over the last month or so (not coming up/down on occassion). I had it checked out by my Indy and he took the fuse box out and saw that the wires have burn out. He isn't sure how far down the loom it goes.

He is going to give me a quote in the morning, but considering the worst case scenario (assuming it ALL needs to be re-wired) whats its going to cost?

(1) He mentioned a grand today... is that about right?

(2) I am the kind of owner who gets things sorted (even though I plan to sell the car to go upto to Sag/911 T) and I want to, but what does wisdom here say? Do it or don't do it?

you need to find a really good auto spark who is not affraid of getting stuck in and repairing it.

might be quite easy to fix for such a man (had a similar thing with an old cosworth, garage said £1,000, my autspark spent a few hours and a second hand complete fuse box and it was sorted for less than £250.

I would have thought Porsch-Apart may have say a secondhand fuse box and/or part wiring loom to replace damaged items. May be more cost effective?

Are you talking about the fusebox itself or the wires immediately behind the headlights? It is very common for the loom leading up the headlights to have frayed insulation and short circuits, this is due to the years and years of flex when the lights pop up and down. A good auto electrician should be able to strip back a small part of that loom and splice new wires in place. I had similar problems a few years ago and am sure it was under £50 at the same time as a yearly service.

If it is the fusebox and entire loom? eek eek eek
