Picked my 996 last week (part exchanged my Chimaera). Really pleased with the build quality and safety features. Made the switch to the 911 for the practicality and it's abilities for every day driving.

However, I'm sorting of missing my TIV.

Anyone else switched to Porsche from TVR?

Fair point. When I test drove the 911 - I didn't think it felt as quick as the TVR, but I put it down to the chasis being more capable. But, now I'm pretty sure the 5.0 litre Chimaera was considerably faster.

Never mind - the 996 is still lovely.

Had a few TVRs (griff 500, cerbie 4.5 l/w, 350T and Saggy Arse)
Have had a few 911s (GT3,TT,RS and now GT2)

no comparison, matey.. you've made the right decision!

The 911 will always do, what it says on the tin.. the TVR will always leave you wondering which bit of tin (sorry plastic) will fall off!

Only trouble is you need a high end 911 to get the same power buzz as a TVR.

Prior to my tweaked GT2, the cerbie was the quickest car, I have owned.

lol.. nicely eek

learning curve, a steep one!

It's not an RS on track, but mine was well sorted.. Manthey etc.
Scary car in wet, but really is the ultimate acceleration hit!

I could really form a close bond over time, I think we need to treat each other with respect and be prepared for those little ups and downs, that life brings. rolleyes

Im concidering a 996tt or 996c4s after my t350c........ still looking at the moment for the right car. Cant decide between tiptronic or manual. The car will be a daily driver I hope. As most of my commute is through heavy traffic in and out of Manchester I am thinking about tje tip more. Any thoughts? Whats the life span of a clutch in one of these? (14k in my tvr!)

yeah, TVR soundtrack is epic.. hard to recreate on a 911!

Had sports exhausts on all my TVRs, do miss the snap, crackle and pop of the cerbie..cry

I think I paid about £400 for the cans on the Cerbera, and got a soundtrack only Schumie's car could match!

Will have to pay about 2.5-3k to get the GT2 sounding half reasonable. yikes

Changed my 500 Chimaera for a 996 cab. Felt exactly the same, not a lot in it performance wise but the TVR just felt a lot quicker (in a straight line). Now have noisy exhaust and supercharger fitted to my 996 and it is much more fun 446 bhp, will probably blow up soon just like the TVR!

Obvious answer - it depends how you drive it but should easily be over 14k, probably 30k - 40k. Anyway, a genuine clutch fitted is only £425 + VAT (www.unitleven.co.uk, Warrington), although a Turbo will be a bit dearer.

as a standard car the 996 is over baffled so every thing it does seems very undramatic in the sound department.

get yourself a decent sports exhaust and the aural effect will transform your appreciation of the car
