I don't know if you've tried slowly accelerating to high revs, but from memory if you do this (i.e. not as a high a load) the lights will probably stay off.

It's highly likely it's the MAF (Mass Airflow) sensor. You could get someone to plug it in and diagnose it first, or you could just buy from www.eurocarparts.com (£115 - £140 + VAT) and change it yourself. When you open the engine compartment it's at the top, one cable and 2 small screws (Torx security ones).

no, but the ABS and traction control systems are based on speed sensors on the wheels - and generally (on most cars) are the weak point of the system, thus the first consideration if both systems appear to have an issue.

If the wheel sensors were at fault the lights wouldn't come on in relation to the load on the engine. I know it sounds weird, but a dodgy MAF sensor will cause the problem as described. Get it plugged in for a certain answer though.

Check that the MAF is secure, check it is sitting correctly with regard to air flow direction. If it still persists, change the MAF the problem will be gone

I've got this problem on my Boxster S (MY2000), except the 2 lights come on as soon as I touch the brake pedal and only when the car has not reached normal operating temperature.

Some very helpful advice here also pointed to a dodgy MAF; I'm just trying to source a decent indie in my neck of the woods (Teesside)to give it a once over.

had just the same problem, replacing the mass Air Flow sensor did the trick. as stated by others can be replaced very easily
